surge question for 1st IUI
I am taking Letrozole and will have my first IUI. When I start taking the ovulator predictiion test what is the actual surge? Is it the day I get a smiley face or the day I get a flashing smiley face? Or should I just get the test that says yes or no?
TIA

Re: surge question for 1st IUI
are you getting monitored by your RE? When i did my IUI's i didnt have to use OPK because they went off of sono and blood work...annoying because you go alot when you get closer to ovulation, but there was no question about when i was going to surge. Also, i triggered on 4 out of the 6 IUIs - sometimes along with my natural surge and others before my BW showed that I surged.
But to answer your question, I would say that your surge is when you get the solid smiley, but i would definitely call your doctor when you get the flashing one in case they want you to come in. Personally, i never liked the flashing smiley one. The first time i used it, i never got a "flashing" smiley, and the second time i got did them twice day, got a "O" in the AM, a flashing smiley that PM and then a solid smiley the next morning. It confused me, so i like the ones that just say Yes/No.

surge question for 1st IUI
I agree with PP. Are you being monitored by a reproductive endocrinologist? I had to go to the office 4 times last week and had blood/sono each day in prep for my IUI. I was also using my CBEFM at home just because I was curious and it DID NOT pick up my ovulation, when I clearly ovulated based on bloodwork and sonogram. I'm not too familiar with the flashing smiley/solid smiley but have seen it mentioned a bunch of time here and on the TTC board. You might want to do a brief search and I'm sure you'll find the info you need! Good luck!

Re: surge question for 1st IUI
I think for the true surge on the smiley tests u go from the solid smiley - but I agree with the PP that usually your Dr will follow you with bloodwork and sono right before the IUIs to know te exact timing - I get this from Dr I start going around day 9-10 but I m not seeing a RE just my Gyn....good luck!

Re: surge question for 1st IUI
I never used OPKs once I started seeing an RE. They monitor you so the know exactly when you should trigger. Triggers allow for a better-timed IUI.
