Surprising Kids--Need Help :)
My dh and I want to surprise our kids with a trip to Disney. We want to keep it a secret as long as possible (up to that day is what we really want). I don't want to tell them that they are going to their grandmothers house because they will be disappointed in not going there-lol!! Wondered if anyone has ever done such a big surprise before or could give me suggestions. My kids are 10 and 5 so the 10 yr. old you can't pass much by-lol!! Thanks :)

Can I be your kid too? What a great surprise. Maybe tell them you're going somewhere else and that day say guess what we're really going to Disney.

Re: Surprising Kids--Need Help :)
Just don't tell them, keep the secret. Maybe buy them all a new suitcase to go on vacation with, and put a note in it to 'hurry up and pack your suitcase for DISNEY' when you give it to them.
idk, that's the only idea I have right now.

Re: Surprising Kids--Need Help :)
I would just not tell them! Pack their bags and tell them right before you head to the airport!
I just have to say this is one of the most awesome things you could do for them - they are going to be so psyched!!! Such lucky kids!!!

Write out a list of everything you'll need for them, so they can pack themselves the day of! You get all the soaps etc, but have a list of the clothes they need, and hand it over to them. You can help of course when they need it. (the 5 yr old especially).

Re: Surprising Kids--Need Help :)
The morning of I would wake them up...make them some Mickey shaped pancakes or waffles...ask them if they would like to go see Mickey Mouse...when they say yes...tell them "we better hurry up and start packing, our planes leaves in X hours"
hand them a list of things to pack...if you can pack your bags the night before so you can help them pack....they will be so giddy and excited.
I would say wait until you actually get to Fl....but you run the risk of a friendly flight attendent asking if you are going to Disney...and I'm sure that you want the suprise to come from you

See my 1st post above.
Write a letter that says, Hurry up and pack your bag, we are going to DISNEY!! This is what you'll need, so hurry up, we leave TODAY!!!

Re: Surprising Kids--Need Help :)
These are some great ideas. Not sure of the packing that day thing though as we will probably be leaving really early but we could do so the night before. Thanks :)

Re: Surprising Kids--Need Help :)
I had a similar idea to tell Shelly's--tell them you are going somewhere educational--like Fort Sumter! (which I totally stole from the movie Shag)
It's warm there, so you'd need the same clothes for Disney.
Or you could tell them you are going to look at boarding schools & really freak them out!
Or that you are going to visit friends of yours they've never met.
Or just tell them you are going on a surprise trip & they won't find out where until you leave.

Re: Surprising Kids--Need Help :)
when are you going?
if you are going before we start wearing summer clothes here, then just pack their shorts and tees on the sneak.
you probably wouldn't need too much of what they are wearing currently (one-two pairs of jeans for a bad weather day...a light jacket/sweater) so could you get away with that?
do they have enough clothes so that they wouldn't miss a few outfits if you took them out of the "rotation" a few days before leaving? if you do, I would say NOTHING. let them figure it out when they see "ORLANDO" at the boarding gate!

I second this! My parents took us to Colonial Williamsburg when I was about 9 or 10. I don't think I even knew what suicide was yet at that age...but I'm pretty sure I wanted to kill myself.
Good luck with the surprise!

There's a first time for everything. I don't think a 5 and 10 year old would question it.
I still vote with the crowd that says just don't tell them ANYTHING until you spill the surprise (whether you tell them the day you leave or the day before).

I would figure out someway to pack for them, and then tell them you are going out to breakfast or something. When you get to the airport I would then surprise them with the fact that you are going to Disney.

We are going the beginning of Sept. so we will be taking the clothes we will be wearing then.
