I have the kia sorrento. It doesnt have much trunk space when third row is up. We got a bubble for when we travel.

We have a mazda 5 but it's not really an SUV. It's like a compact minivan. You can't get into the back row unless you pull up the second row, but we've used it with 2 children and four adults in the car and it's great.

Were the kids in carseats? If so, what type - infant, toddler, booster.

It was before our baby was born, but back in September, we had my niece and nephew in the back row (3rd row) in their car seats -- a booster and a front-facing toddler seat. I wouldn't put my newborn in the 3rd row -- I'd make an adult climb back there instead, but for a 3 y/o and 5 y/o they were great in the 3rd row since they could just climb in.
I also had a newborn, 5 y/o and 9 y/o in the car with the nb and booster seats in the 2nd row and the 9 y/o in the 3rd row when I went out with a friend in December and we all fit great. The 9 y/o climbed into the back seat through the back of the car (we had one seat up and one down so we could put the stroller in the back, next to the 9 y/o in the seat).
Hope that makes sense.

We have a Honda Pilot, it has a third row and you can adjust the amount of leg room by moving the middle row.

Same here. Love mine.
My other option was the Toyota Highlander but I believe they eliminated the third row. The smaller SUVs - Honda CRV, Toyota 4 runners have them too but the seats aren't truly 3 across. It's more like 2.5 so if you're getting it with the expectation of having more room for their friends as they grow older, there is a comfort factor to consider.

Me too - just bought it in October with a third child on the way - I needed on with a true third row and that you can walk thru to get to without going thru back or climbing over a seat. Buick/GMC sells the Acadia too which has similar features but we liked the look of the Enclave better. Love it so far! My 6 year old will move back there once baby is born.
DH has a Lincoln Navigator which he loves too but way too big for me.

We just picked up our mazda cx9 last week and so far i love it! It has a 3rd row, but we havent used it yet.
The other suv we looked at was the highlander which also has a third row. It was nice, but ovrall, the mazda was much nicer and it was cheaper too! It's a great value and beautiful looking car.
I also highly recommend wantagh mazda We went to three mazda dealerships (my dh is very thorough when doing car research) and they were by far the best to deal with and gave us the best deal. Very positive experience!

I have a mazda 5. If you have the 3rd row you will not have ANY trunk space. Or about 10 inches. So you cannot use the trunk at all if you have the 3rd row on. But if it's just for passengers then it's OK. Don't think you can use a 3rd row and put a stroller in the trunk. You cannot.
I love the car.
I consider the 3rd row really a "used once in a while" type row. Mine is always folded.
DC carseat in the rear passenger seat. The 2nd row is 2 seats divided. It's not a bench seat. The only way to access it if you have 2 car seat would be to squeeze yourself between both seats to go to the 3rd row. You can but not very practical on a regular basis. The way to access is really to move the 2rd row seat forward to go on the 3rd seat (just like on a coupe car). But the top of the seat would fold forward. So you can't do that if you have a carseat.

I hve a Honda Pilot (2007) and absolutely love it! When the 3rd row is up, there is enough room for groceries or a light weight stroller....but not the whole travel system .....it really cuts into the space in the back!

The question is...do you want trunk space with the 3rd row...I thought I wanted an SUV with a thrid row if and when we have our third child....but I also want to fit my double stroller....so pretty much that ruled out MANY SUVs unless I wanted a tanker of car 
SO it looks like we are going to have to go with a mini-van!

That's true. A 3rd row takes on the trunk.
So if you need trunk space you will need a BIG SUV like Yukon, Escalade or a minivan.
