3rd Row SUV's?
Hi,
I do not post a lot but we are car shopping and I could really use advice and where better to turn. Which car would you recommend? Do you own one or know someone who does? Any advice is great appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 3rd Row SUV's?
I have the Pathfinder. What do you want to use the 3rd row for? It's a very roomy vehicle, but when the 3rd row is up there's little trunk room and the 3rd row isn't very roomy. It's a great truck, though, overall. I really like it.

I live OOS and get a lot of visitors and it is annoying to have to take 2 cars whenever we want to go anywhere. The extra room when the 3rd row is down would come in handy for all the trips we make.
How is the leg room between the 2nd row and front?

Re: 3rd Row SUV's?
I have a friend who has a Pilot and says that the 3rd row is not easy to access when you have car seats installed in the second row.
Several of my neighbors have Acadias and they all seem to like them, but I've not asked in a while.
Another friend who has twins has a Highlander and they like it a lot, but I don't think they use the 3rd row much.
We looked around and ended up with a minivan because it seemed easier to access the 3rd row and you still have a decent amount of trunk space. I don't love it but I'm really a sedan girl, I hated the SUV DH had when we started dating too.

Re: 3rd Row SUV's?
We have the Saturn Outlook and love it, pretty much the same thing as the Acadia I think. I love the fact you have middle row bucket seats so its easy to get to the back row, like a minivan.
I liked the Pilot as well. Test drove a Highlander and wasn't as keen on them although they look awesome.

I don't have any of the trucks listed but i have a suburban. It has 3 rows and a full trunk even when 3rd row is in use. I feel so safe in it.

Re: 3rd Row SUV's?
Most of those cars will have a very small 3rd row.
Even the Ford Explorer/Volvo CX90 3rd row is tight and those are larger vehicles.

my sister has the explorer with the 3rd row- it's tight - and I am 5'2
it's also not that easy to get back there IMO

My husband is 6'5" and he sits fine in the back when we go out with people. It's not the roomiest though. The 2nd row seats can recline slightly. You should go test one out if you haven't. They have back up cams, a Bose sound system, and some rgeat safety features.
I would also suggest checking out the Town & Country minivan. I know you're looking for an SUV, but the T&C is seriously roomy and has a lot of great features for a decent price. One of my friends was looking for an SUV, but decided on the T&C and is so happy she got it.

Re: 3rd Row SUV's?
One thing to consider with a 3rd row if you have carseats is that you need to able to access the 3rd row while the carseats are in place. A lot of the SUV's that have the 3rd row, you need to fold something down in the 2nd row.
Out of the ones you posted I know that he Mazada CX-9 you do not need to do that. The seats slide front to back with a carseat in place. It might be a thigt squeeze to get back there, but you don't have to climb over anything.
My SIL has 3 kids and a Saturn Outlook (it was the first year it was out) and she loves it. It is configured like a minivan with 2 captain chairs in the middle but not console in the middle so you can get to the back no problem.
We bought a pre-certified Mercedze Benz R-350 in March and I love it. It seats 6 and it is 6 full seats (even the 3rd row has real seats with latch so I can have 4 carseats in there at one time). We have a 2007 so their is no console in between the 2nd row but I think the current models have that has an option now. The middle row seats also slide. My mom who is 5'10 sits in the 3rd comfortably.
I had a Nissan Armada and hated everything about it (I traded this truck for the the R-350). It was 3 rows with captain chairs in the 2nd row but their was a huge console so you needed to climb over that in order to get to the 3rd row. It was so annoying.
I wanted to add that the Acadia also has the access to the 3rd row through walking in the middle of the seats in the 2nd row. We looked at it when it came out but the price was still so high. Not sure how it is now.

Re: 3rd Row SUV's?
Wow, these are all such great comments. Thank you so much.
We will have 1 car seat for now and hopefully 2 by sometime next year so I will need to consider how it will work with them. The Mazda sounds like it would be a little easier to work. We looked at the Acadia and it has the captain chairs for the 2nd row so that is helpful. It is the most expensive of them all though!!

Any of hte GM lambda models would be my first pic - the Buick Enclave, the GMC Acadia, the Chevy Traverse, or the Saturn Outlook.

ETA from my post above....
We have the Captain's Chairs in the middle, because my two kids are in car seats still. Getting into the 3rd row is easy, through the center. The third row is a full third row.... I have had 3 adults in the 3rd row with plenty of leg room and no complaints.
I got it in the Silver

Re: 3rd Row SUV's?
You should look into the Consumer Reports website and signing up for their online subscription. It's less than $30 and their vehicle reviews are top-notch.
We're doing research on small SUV's and you can compare vehicles side by side by side. It's really convenient and their Road Test section gives you a heck of a lot real-world information.
I have no experiences with the vehicles you mentioned, I'm sorry I can't help! We're looking at smaller SUV's with no 3rd row - the Toyota Rav4 and the Honda CR-V. If you reconsider the 3rd row, both of these SUV's are the highest rated in their class.

Did you get the 2009 or the 2010??? I'm so glad to hear from someone that loves this car!!! I am currently getting in the backseat of my mercury cougar (2 door) to put DS in it. I need better car, and this is what I plan on getting.

I got it back in March, it's a 2009. I got the CXL (leather with all wheel drive). We like to joke around that I flew right past a mid-life crisis and into a Buick but its seriously the best car I've ever had. Can't say enough good things about it. Most people love it once they see it and drive it. Good Luck.
The 2010's are just coming out. There is no real difference at all between the 09 and 10's, just that the 10's have ipod integration. If you find an 09 left, you might get it at a great deal.
Only downside? Gas mileage. On a good highway drive, I'm lucky if I get 20-22 mpg. Local driving is worse. Gas mpg might be slightly better on the FWD version.

Thanks!!! I've asked about 2009 models, and all they seem to have is white left. I'm really not a white car girl. It might be a month or two before I buy. I too had a problem with the name Buick, but it really isn't an old person's car at all. I was hung up on that before I saw how nice and 'younger' it really was.
