SW-related: Employers that pay family hc coverage
I am sick of paying half my paycheck each week to health insurance when I work IN health care!
Does anyone know of any agencies or places that offer this benefit?
Even if it's not necessarily a "social worker" position, but something I could apply my education and experience towards. TIA!!

Aren't there social work positions/counseling within schools and government too?

My agency (small not-for-profit in Patchogue) pays for employee health care, but you would have to pay for your family. I don't use it since I'm on my husband's insurance.
We are actually looking to hire a part-time bilingual social worker if anyone is interested.

Life's WORC and NS-LIJ health system.
My goal this year is to get my LMSW so I can apply to NS-LIJ.
I have applied to Life's WORC more times than I can count, and have not even gotten an acknowledgment that they have received my resume.
I am guessing probably because they don't hire many social workers and I have a lot of experience as well (they are more group home/direct care related work).

You don't necessarily need to box yourself in to the NS-LIJ System. My suggestion would be to look for a job with 1199 insurance. Yes, they have it at the NS-LIJ Hospitals but they do have it at other places too. You probably could get a listing of which places on the 1199 SEIU Website. Also, some places require you to get your LMSW within 6 months of hire so start looking now.
Edited for spelling :(

most hospitals will hire you as long as you agree to get your L within a certain amount of time. At the hospital my stepmom works in in Queens, they dont even enforce it! How about VNS?

I figured it would be tough in this economy to not have the L already.
Is VNS only in NYC? I would like to try to avoid working in the city again if at all possible.

I dont think they are only in NYC. I know for sure they are in nassau, not sure about suffolk. Also from what I understand, Personal Touch is always expanding.

Re: SW-related: Employers that pay family hc coverage
Thanks for the tips.
I know a few people who have worked for Personal Touch and it didn't seem to be run well (programs I had interaction with anyways), so I am not sure I would apply there.
In fact, I think I eventually may want to get out of homecare altogether! Go somewhere where social workers are valued more, and it's not so much about the almighty dollar.
