Swaddle weaning help
So my DS is almost 4 months old and has been swaddled with the miracle balnket since @ 4 weeks. I believe it's what helped us get him to STTN. Now at 4 months, he's outgrown the blanket so his feet no longer fit in the bottom part. I thought it would be a good time to wean him from it because he's rolled over and will probably start to do it in his sleep soon. We also have been using the sleep positioner to keep him in place.
Night 1: I put one arm out, still in positioner- he woke up a few times but went right back to bed after given his paci.
Night 2: both arms out (so just wrapped around his belly), no positioner- woke up 1 or 2 times.
Night 3: last ngiht- no swaddle- he was up starting at 1:30 and could not fall back asleep, even with his paci. He was tossing and turning, flipping himself to the side. I thought her was just trying to find a comfortable position but he would start fussing again 20 min.s later. Finally at 2:30 I wrapped him up in the swaddle, both arms out. But he was still up fussing every hour. He was all over the crib- turning himself around like a clock.
What should I do- start over again with the one arm out and positioner, or go with no swaddle again? Is it normal for them to be all over the crib like this?
Thanks

Re: Swaddle weaning help
DS has always been all over his crib - even when he was swaddled he'd spin in circles. He still does now.
Once he started rolling over while he was swaddled we got worried he could suffocate himself. We stopped for a couple of nights and it was bad. We saw the ped (had a well visit) and mentioned it to her and she said if he's sleeping through the night swaddled, not to worry - so we put it back on and he was fine.
Once he was really breaking out on his own all the time I think that was when we tried 1 night with an arm out and after realizing it wasn't any better then anything, we just stopped all together.
After a couple of nights he was pretty much back to his normal patterns. We had gone up to a bigger swaddle when he grew out of the first one. You could try that if he really does sleep that well swaddled.
Oh, and he was about 6 1/2 mo at least when we stopped. I was starting to worry we'd have to go to his dorm room at night to swaddle him when he went to college.

Re: Swaddle weaning help
Honestly, give it a few days. It took both my DS and DD about 3 nights to get used to sleeping without the swaddle, and then they were fine
