Swaddling and Rolling?

So the IL's were visiting this weekend and making comments and now of course I am paranoid.

My DS is 3.5 months old and loves to be swaddled at night to sleep. My MIL kept saying that I need to stop soon because he will never learn to roll. Now this makes no sense to me because he is not practicing rolling when sleeping at night but of course I am paranoid.

My DD hated to be swaddled so we never had this issue. She did roll early and I think that is adding to my paranoia.

What do you think?

Re: Swaddling and Rolling?

You're fine! IMO swaddling will not affect your DC's ability to roll.

In fact, we had to stop swaddling DS because he started rolling over in his sleep... while swaddled!!!!

Re: Swaddling and Rolling?

Rolling and swaddling are not related....

DS gets swaddled and he was inconsistently rolling over at 7 weeks.....

don't make yourself nuts.....

Re: Swaddling and Rolling?

he'll roll when he's awake....just give him lots of floor time to practice.

When YOU feel comfortable enough to let him roll over in his sleep and belly sleep...that is YOUR choice, no one elses

You're fine...I think that if he is ready to roll the first thing he would try is to break free of the swaddle. My DS did this. But honestly he never has rolled at night. He's usually down for the count...it's when he wakes that he moves...and he lets us know loud and clear. Chat Icon
