Sweet 16 and covid testing

A close family member is having a sweet 16 at a reception hall this summer. I just found out we all need to get covid tested 3 days before. So I have to take my healthy 2 and 5 year olds to the doctor to get tested and then they will go to camp the following 3 days and be exposed to countless germs. I’m just so annoyed about this. It’s a close family member and not someone I can just decline the invitation.

So annoying..what are they going to do if you don't do it? What's the procedure?

I think that is a protocol from the reception hall, not your family member. It’s definitely inconvenient, but maybe the procedure will change by summertime.

Yes you’re right, it comes from Cuomo. These family members don’t even believe in covid so it’s definitely not them. I just can’t imagine asking 100 people to do this. If it were my daughter we would go on a nice trip instead.

Exactly. I wouldn’t put that burden on family and friends.

I think it’s a wise move although I’d be aggravated because it’s one more thing to do. It protects the staff at the facility and also makes it so no one can turn around and sue probably.

Can you have someone babysit the littles? You’d probably enjoy the party more & then it cuts down on the testing hassle.

Same. I couldn't ask my guests to not only come and bring a gift but make time to go get a test...which is completely useless because like you mentioned, you get tested then go out and about and get exposed for days before the event...so a negative test means absolutely nothing. These rules are utter nonsense for that reason.
I would have the party catered in my yard at that point
I couldn't ask people to do that.
And I'd decline this party...close family or not. That's too much to ask of guests

I'd decline too... Or can you not bring the kids and get a sitter? Bringing young kids to a fancy party isn't too fun anyway.

It is the state's guidelines.

When is the party? My friend is getting married at the end of July and I hope the procedures will be loosened by then. My DH and I will be vaccinated, but will be way past 90 days post second injection by that point.

I have a wedding in June and as of right now we all have to be tested. I have no problem with that. I have never been tested but if we go on vacation we have to be tested too.

We are going to a September wedding. What happens at the venue? They collect forms of negative tests? What’s the procedure here.

I’m curious too. Is it the honor system? Are they going to turn guests away who forget to bring their papers? Do you need to show ID to prove it’s your test? Because I see a black market for fake test results / vaccines lol It’s so ridiculous.

I guaranteed you the scammers are creating fake vaccine papers and such as we speak. This can be big money for them!
The dark web is probably very busy right now.

Yep as I just put up about wearing no masks after getting a vaccine. Are people going to be standing around everyplace asking to see your papers?

My cousin is supposed to be getting married in July. At this rate he’ll be getting a card from us. Unless they lift restrictions we will not be going. From Covid testing , to the dancing in zones and then I was told he can’t have a cocktail hour or Viennese hour (don’t know if it’s the hall that is telling him or what) at this point , just rent out space in a restaurant, have a dinner and call it a day

Funny as I put up something on the celebrity board about the housewives Kathy Wakiles daughter just getting married and you would never know there were rules. Do the rules not apply in NJ?

They generally don't apply if you are a celeb.

I guess not. So many were attacking on IG that I wouldn’t be surprised the hall gets a visit.

According to this, they followed capacity guidelines. NJ has been stricter than even NY about capacity limits at both halls and restaurants.

Sure looked like a lot more people than that on the video and no masks. Don’t know about the dancing situation in NJ if it is the same as NY.

I don't know and I don't really care what celebrities do. If they want to dance on top of each other and breathe their germs all around the room and end up with COVID, more power to them. For myself, I have no intention on attending a wedding anytime soon.

I agree because the thing it- there are so many regular people who had their weddings cancelled or had to have them with less people and all these rules and yet, if you are a Celeb you can have a huge wedding like it's 2019. Not really fair to the "regular" people

It's silly because unless all the guests are quarantined after testing until the event, they could be exposed to any kind of illness. Reminders to wash hands, keep hands off face, and staff only serving the guest (no shared utensils, etc.), is probably more effective.
