Swelling?
My feet have been swollen for 2 days now. Swollen to the point that I have no ankles. I am only 23 weeks pregnant so it seems early for this kind of swelling. I slept with my feet elevated last night and while they were somewhat better they were still swollen this AM. I don't feel bad otherwise. I had a pretty bad headache last night but that is gone today. Did it happen this early for anyone else? I am not sure if I should be concerned or if this is just the normal pregnancy swelling.

Re: Swelling?
I'm 26 1/2 weeks pg and I've been swelling for a couple of weeks now!! I hate it! I just saw my Dr. and he said its normal for some women to get this and as long as my blood pressure and urine remained ok then all I can really do is keep my feet raised above my heart for approx. 2 hrs a day to keep the swelling down.
WELL...I dont have 2 hours a day to do this...because I work in Manhattan and live on LI and have a 2 hr. commute each way! So, I've been doing the best I can.
The only thing that really stinks is that the weather is getting warmer and I really want to wear capris BUT my ankles look SO HORRENDOUS that I just cant bring myself to do it. At the end of the day they hurt because they are so fat and tight!!
Sorry to hear that you are going through the same thing! Just check with your Dr. to make sure your BP and Urine are ok...

Re: Swelling?
My swelling started around 18 weeks - it was awful. I literally had no ankles - my legs looked like tree trunks LOL.
Drink water with lemon, avoid salt as best you can, try to keep your feet elevated and what didn't really help but made me feel better was soaking my feet in the tub full of cold water.
In the meantime call your doctor and tell him about the swelling - they will probably have you come in to test your urine for protein and check your blood pressure. Feel well

Re: Swelling?
Yup...I don't have any ankles anymore either. My feet look like elephant feet. I'm glad the weather is not too warm today so they can go back to normal. My doctor said to stay away from salt (chinese food), drink lots of water and keep you feet up above your heart to reduce any swelling.
I got a pedicure yesterday and the chinese girls who were doing my feet keep making comments in their language and pointing to my legs... Yes, I can figure out that you're talking about me...

Re: Swelling?
I was totally swollen that early. It was awful! My toes looked like little sausages! Gross My co-workers kept telling me to put me feet up but I told them that's how I got into that predicament in the first place!

Re: Swelling?
I read that you said you had a headache.....this in combination with your feet swelling could be a sign of something else. You should really call the doc and tell him/her what is going on. They will probably tell you to come in b/c they will want to do a urine test to see if their is protein present. Swelling by itself is okay in their eyes, but when it is combined with a headache, blurry vision (stars) and protein in the urine it might be toxemia. I am only telling you this to be cautious b/c it happened to me........better to get checked out and get it ruled out. Good luck

Re: Swelling?
I have the same thing, and I'm 23 weeks... and I was also getting AWFUL headaches, so I called my Dr. Turns out it's nothing other than swelling, and it can happen early on, especially with the heat. I've developed the lovliest "cankles" and I'm sure I've seen my little doggy looking ravenously at my little toes that now look like little sausages Embarrasing, but it does help to wear flatter shoes, and to elevate my feet whenever I can...

Re: Swelling?
I seem to finally have ankles. I go back to work today so I am going to see how it goes today. I they start to swell as soon as I am on my feet I think I will call my midwife for some reassurance. I only had a headache the first day so I am no too alarmed but I am keeping a watch on things.
Let me just tell you that shopping for capris with cankles on top of already fat legs is not a pleasent experience. I looked diseased.

Re: Swelling?
Wow - I guess I'm lucky...this hasn't happened to me at all! But like someone else said, if it's accompanied by anything else I would mention it to your Dr just to be safe.
Drink lots of water and avoid salty foods!
