Swine flu question
We have had 2 cases of swine flu in my office, one in a different part of the actual office, someone that we in my business does not come in regular contact with and today, a colleague that sits on my pod has called in sick with suspected swine flu. He has taken all the precautions and is starting Tamiflu today. A colleague of mine has intimated to me that she is pregnant, first trimester, about 10 weeks (not 100% sure) but quite early. We called the swine flu hotline, which didn’t give much info, and we also called HR, who has advised that she stay at home for the next two days to be on the safe side, but she does not want to stay at home. She says that she hasn’t seen this guy with swine flu since last week and she isn’t too worried. She is a handwasher and feels quite safe.
What should she do? What would you do in this situation? Help me to advise this poor lady.

Re: Swine flu question
better to be safe than sorry and she should stay home for a few days. the incubation period is 2-4 days I believe and work should be doing a thorough cleaning!

Re: Swine flu question
From what I understand the swine flu is only dangerous for pregnant women in their 3rd trimester. There were a couple of girls on the pregnancy board that had it.
I also think the flu only lives on surfaces for 24 hours. If she hasn't seen him since last week I wouldnt worry. Just tell her to lysol her desk and wash her hands.

Re: Swine flu question
Hmmm, this is a tough one... I personally would go to work since I know myself but I would probably advise another person to stay home (does that make any sense?). Also, if this woman has any children at home, it is probably better for her to stay home to prevent cross contamination and possibly bringing it home to her child/ren.
