Yes, I have a swine flu question...

OK, I am just looking for some opinions. Here are the details:

We are supposed to be going to a block party this coming Saturday.

Just found out that our friend's 3 and a half year old son was diagnosed with a confirmed case of swine flu 2 weeks ago.

I believe that he is recovered now.

I am pregnant and we have an almost 2 year old.

Would you still go to the party?

if he is fine i would go. 3 weeks is a long time. can you ask your ped or OB if they think the child could still be contagious?

yes, we had the flu (probably swine but so few are confirmed now). By 10 day we had DD's party and we felt fine. Nobody got sick either. It is a rather "easy" flu as it is not as severe. If he doesn't have symptoms...fever, cough, etc. I think you should be fine.

Re: Yes, I have a swine flu question...

I have been exposed to the swine flu twice so far while pregnant and I have a 22 month old as well. Both times the OB and the ped told me that the person is contagious - one wk starting from the onset of symtoms or 24 hours after they are COMPLETELY better. So assuming the child has been completely better for a few days he is not contagious anymore at all. I guess I would have some hesitation about his family members but, I would think they would be displaying symtoms at this point. I wouldn't hold off b/c of that b/c you can really get it anywhere these days as of when I spoke to my OB and ped about two wks ago it is very widespread.

Re: Yes, I have a swine flu question...

my nephew was diagnosed with swine flu a few weeks ago - a little scary b/c his sister is a newborn and they worried about her getting sick but luckily she did not.....my nephew was tested and confirmed to have it - well h1n1 or whatever it's called now....

we were around him 2 or 3 days before he started showing symptoms - he was sick for a little over a week and then we saw him about 1 week after he started feeling better...so we were around him again about 2.5 weeks after he first got it.....i didn't get sick and neither did my hiusband.......

i think 3 weeks would be safe
