Switching from EBF to exclusively pumping - questions for you!
DS is almost 3 weeks old and has been EBF for that time. My milk supply seems to be pretty good, but even though I've used a lactation specialist my nipples are still very uncomfortable.
I started pumping last week to build up my milk supply and was happy to have gotten 1-2oz at a time. My goal is to switch to exclusively pumping so that his voracious feeding will be against a bottle's nipple and not mine (I know it's selfish, but I'm justifying it unfortunately).
My question is how much of a milk supply should I have in my fridge/freezer before i stop nursing him and go exclusively to bottles? I have about 7-8oz in the freezer right now and think I need to get to 20-30oz before I swtich over. Does anyone know how many ounces a typical 3 week old takes of breast milk?
ET: DS was born pretty big so I have a feeling that he eats more than the average infant. DH thinks the reason he fusses so much is not gas or discomfort - DH thinks I'm not feeding him enough. DS nurses every 2-3 hours for nearly an hour every time - I'm assuming this is normal but its really hard!
Any thoughts?

Congrats on your baby!!!
I honestly can't remember how much DS was taking at 3 weeks because I was EBF, but I would just call your ped to ask how many oz the baby should have for each bottle. They should be able to give you a number. Good luck!

This link from kellymom.com has a lot of helpful pumping information, including an article on the amounts of BM babies require at different ages.

Just wanted to say that around 3 weeks was the time the pain really started to subside for me. So, if you're up to it, you might find that you can continue to breastfeed without feeling alot of pain. Good luck either way!

I have to agree! You may want to stick it out, also at 3 weeks they go through a growth spurt and want to nurse all the time and that helps you build up your supply.
