Tabata challenge, anyone?
Anyone want to start tomorrow on taking four minutes out of their day for a tabata challenge?
You need to pick a grueling exercise.. Plyos, burpees, squat leaps, whatever, for twenty seconds nonstop, working to failure. Rest ten seconds, then do it again for twenty seconds. Keep doing this for four minutes, or eight rounds.
Just one time a day. We can start a thread on the exercise you did, how you feel, and the results you see by the end of the month....

Re: Tabata challenge, anyone?
IDK...I'm scared.
Ok, I found this site and I think I can manage lateral jumps. LOL. I might need to wear three bras though.
This seems do-able

Re: Tabata challenge, anyone?
Absolutely! Are you only supposed to do 4 minutes? Or are you supposed to do 4 minutes for one exercise and then move on and do 4minutes of something else?

I think I'll start w/ burpees.
One thing I font understand-- what dies it mean to work till failure? That sounds ominous.

Yes - you can do that - I was thinking it would be fun every month to do different challenges... March - just one time a day, April, 2 times a day, etc....

Literally, your muscles fail by the end of the 2o sec, and recover during the ten...

Re: Tabata challenge, anyone?
Do you think I could do it while running up and down a step? We have a sunken living room. Do you think that would be a good exercise?

Re: Tabata challenge, anyone?
I just found a Tabata interval timer on the droid! It's called "Tabata Sport Interval Timer" by robapps
ETA: just tried it out (the app, not Tabita...just came back from the gym). It's very cool. It starts with a pause and then it is a green screen when you go and red when you rest, and there is a whistle in between to tell you when to start and stop. It is already set up to do the 20 and 10 intervals for a total of 4 mins.

I wasn't familiar with some of the exercises either. I looked it up and found one called "Lateral jumps" which is basically setting something up on the floor that you can jump over repeatedly (side to side). Like...a small cone or stack of books. I think this is what I am going to do. I think the steps might work though!

LMAO! I don't think the jumps will be too noisy...probably just my screaming.

I'll try it! Sounds similar to insanity, but with shorter intervals. Will probably try with burpees. Have to go download an app

Re: Tabata challenge, anyone?
Can I ask a question? When you posted about this over the weekend, I googled it and it said that Tabata should not be done daily. If you can do it daily you are not doing it correctly. If you do it correctly and really max out like you are supposed to, the most you should do it is once per week..... but most people only do it once or twice per month....
I am no fitness expert and I know that the internet always has conflicting info so I figured I would ask.....
Thanks....
ETA: This is exactly what I read...
This is not a daily workout, if you can do this every day you are doing it wrong. Some people try it once a week but most end up doing tabata once or twice a month. None the less, it produces remarkable results for those brave enough to use it.
but now that I look back at the site it doesn't seem that reputable....
Can you direct me to a reputable site that I can read more about this in detail? I downloaded an app on my iphone but I want to make sure I don't injure myself as I am a beginner when it comes to stuff like this.
Thanks!
