Table Food and Portion Size Question
I need some help. DS is eatiing more and more table food now. He is 10 1/2 months, is a big boy (probably over 26 lbs) and I sometimes feel like he would eat and eat and eat until I stopped feeding him.
I'm having trouble determining what a normal portion is for him.
So answer my hypothetical if you would. Last night his dinner was perdue baked chicken nuggets (i take the breading off for him), pierogies and peas. How many nuggets and pierogies is a normal portion? In terms of the veggies, I just give him as much as he wants of that. He doesn't discriminate either. He loves them!
TIA!

Re: Table Food and Portion Size Question
I would think at 10.5 months 2 nuggets, one pierogie, and veggies should be enough.
I would give DS whatever fit into his little gerber bowls. HTH

Re: Table Food and Portion Size Question
Give it to him now because DS was the same way. if it wasn't nailed down, he was eating it. Now, he can go a whole day on two bites of food.
So, my answer is to let him eat. If you give him two nuggets, and he wants more give him more!

Re: Table Food and Portion Size Question
I think the AAP recommends something like 40 calories per inch of height for an average toddler...but dont quote me on this my memory might not serve me correctly....
Some days Caden seems to eat everything and anything and then other days he cant be bothered..enjoy the healthy appetite!!!!

Re: Table Food and Portion Size Question
the tricky part is that sometimes I think that although he is satisfied he still eats.
So that night I gave him 3 nuggets and 2 pierogies and a ton of veggies and he wasn't acting full. Now granted, once I take all of the breading off the nuggets it doesn't amount to much. Plus I don't give him the ends of the pierogies either because they tend to be a little more rubbery and he only has 3 little teeth.
Tonight his menu consisted of organic hot dogs and green beans. He ate 2 hotdogs. Again, I do take off the skin and stuff so it reduces down a lot but still. I seems like a lot to me. Plus he was grabbing at my arms to give him some of my dinner. Instead of giving him more hotdogs I gave him a jar of stage 2 fruit. Plus he had the green beans.
I guess if he's hungry I should feed him. But weight issues run on both sides of the family so I really want to teach him healthy eating habits from the beginning. I guess the trick will be that if he has an insatiable appetite I must fill him up with the healthy stuff. I probably sound like a nut that I am worrying about this already.
Thanks!!!
