Table Runner Question

I just bought a table runner for my dining room table (w/o the leaf). Is the runner supposed to just cover the table and reach the ends, or is it supposed to hang off? I am not sure if mine is too short!!!

Re: Table Runner Question

For my dining room, the table runner goes just to the end of the table with the leaf in it...Not sure if it is right, but I can't find one longer!!!

So it is okay that is just reaches the end of my table. This is w/o the leaf so that I can display my Tiffany candlesticks all the time on my table.

Tell me about it! That is how mine is, I got use to after feeling it looked strange. What size did you get???? The longest I have seen was 108

Re: Table Runner Question

I had the same problem, I keep one leaf in my dining room table and the runner I just bought looked really short-so I bought another runner(the same design) and sewed them together!

Re: Table Runner Question

a traditional runner should cover the center of a table (where serving pieces would be placed) when a table is set with place settings. So it should stop short of the place settings at the heads of the table....

hope this helps

Re: Table Runner Question

this is from 'ebay reviews'

Table Runner - a long scarf or linens piece that fits the length of a rectangular table. The ends or sides of a runner are often decorated with needlework. It is meant to be placed down the center of the table and should end about 8 to 10 inches from the table's edge. Its width should depend on the table's width as it should be no closer than 2 inches to the place settings but 25 inches in width is an average size. Table runners are used instead of such items as center cloths and cruet mats to reduce the clutter of items upon the table. Most often table runners are used if the table contains 2 or more centerpieces as with a formal banquet table.
