Re: Taking Max home-update he's home
It's hard to say. If it seems like he's suffering or in any kind of pain that you can't do anything about, I would say you are there.
I am so sorry... My heart is breaking for you...

Max won't even eat baby food? I'm so heartbroken for you. DH's friend had a cat that he absolutely loved and he went to see her before they put her down and he just sobbed. I'm getting teary for you.

I tried to get him to eat anything tonight and he would hover over the bowl and just stare into space.
When do I know it's time?
I think if he's lost all interest in food and isn't all there, it may be time. I'm so sorry.
Horse people have a saying about giving their critters a peaceful end that I think carries over to all pets -- It's better to let them go a week too early than a minute too late... I know your heart must be breaking, but know you're doing the right thing for Max. He's had a great life with you, and I'm sure he appreciates that you're giving him a dignified, peaceful end.
I'm just so sorry for your heartbreak.

Re: Taking Max home-update he's home
he look two licks of his food this morning and I had to hold him up at the bowl. The more I think about it, the more I just want him to have peace.
I just held him this morning and told him I love him and kissed him. I just can't take it anymore. He's suffering.

no baby food. I gave him milk last night and he just put his face in the bowl..nothing. I don't think he has the strength to eat.

Re: Taking Max home-update he's home
this is so true. I don't want him to suffer one minute. that's why we aren't putting him through tests and surgery. Whatever is killing him is killing him quickly. New Year's day is when we took him to the ER.

I know you're probably looking for more practical advice... but on a less practical note, he'll be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Re: Taking Max home-update he's home
thanks, we have a call into the doctor now. He will call us this afternoon. I guess we'll bring him in later. Their office is so nice and compassionate.
I've been reading online..I wish I could just get a grip. I'm here at work devastated.

I cannot explain it, and I probably sound like a kook trying to, but he just gave me this look that said, "I'm ready."

someone at work told me this too. I asked him this morning..I looked into his little kitty face..he just gave me a low growly meow.
His brother has started separating from him. That's the sign...K.C. is ignoring him and actually hissed at him last night when he fell on him.

Awww..
It's true...they know when it's time. We had to put my dog down and I swear it was by far one of THE hardest decisions to make, but he loooked at us with those sad eyes and had this expression of "I'm tired of fighting, its time."
When he's ready, you'll know it.
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this tremendously hard time.
