Taking off from Work/Being Late
Hi!
So far my job has been great with me taking days off and coming in late, they don't know what I am doing I just tell them its personal. I am on a break this month to sort out all my IVF paperwork, classes etc...and with doing IVF I believe there is more monitoring and need day off or 2 for retrieval. Did any of you ladies request a Dr note to show your employer, was it something general?

Re: Taking off from Work/Being Late
My principal was aware of my situation, as I was late often with my first RE and needed the days for IUI's once and one time a back to back. She was very nice about everything but I still got notes. They were general, just that I had been seen in the office. I kept copies of them in case anything was ever called into question by the higher-ups.

I didn't take any time for ivf except for day of retrieval and transfer. Since they were not consecutive I didn't need a note. However, your RE should make the note very general. It's not your employer's business why you need to take a sick day.

Re: Taking off from Work/Being Late
When I taught and was doing IVF, my principal was aware of my situation. I was VERY lucky, we had a good relationship and he was always incredibly accommodating. I think it never hurts to be honest, especially if it goes on longer than a cycle or two.

Re: Taking off from Work/Being Late
i was up front with my bosses about what I was doing and will need sick days etc. we have unlimited sick time that im supposed to submit any surgery or dr's notes to HR for them, but my boss doesnt keep track of sick days in the timekeeping system since its "unlimted". She was like "i know you're honest, i dont need the notes."
I felt it was just better to be honest than to always have to make shit up.

Re: Taking off from Work/Being Late
Best thing I ever did was tell my boss, she could not have been more supportive and that took a lot of stress off of me. I still got notes when I remembered just in case her higher ups wanted them.

Taking off from Work/Being Late
The first time we did IVF I told my boss. He was very understanding.
The second and third times we did fresh cycles I told no one at work but one co worker who is more of a friend. The hours at my job are pretty flexible but the monitoring appointments were early enough that I was able to make it to work on time..if not just a few minutes late. For retrieval and transfer I always took personal or vacation days since those procedures are scheduled in advance.

Re: Taking off from Work/Being Late
Not sure what your work schedule is like, but I only needed the day for my ER and 3dt. I didn't get a note. Just took the days I needed.

Re: Taking off from Work/Being Late
The thing is, she has a strange personality sort of cold. (Not married No Kids not that it matters) I'm just afraid if I tell her she will start worrying about me be being on leave (if this does work) she is very OCD. I just want to tell her as little as possible.
I have a flex schedule where if I come in say 9:15 I will leave 5:15 because I have to drop my daughter off at school in Queens. When I have to go in for monitoring I have to drive back to Mineola then back to Queens for work. Its been a few times where I would get to work close to 11am.
I am just going to get all my Dr notes and let her know I will be late a few times due to medical reasons. Ugh!

I never told anyone, I had some flexibility due to my job. My supervisors knew I went to the Dr, but did not know any details.

Taking off from Work/Being Late
I teach but didn't have a first period. I told my boss that I had a personal medical problem. Seeing as how I only took off 2 days in 4 years, he didn't make a big deal out of it. I'm pretty sure he thought I was dying.

Re: Taking off from Work/Being Late
I never told anyone. My RE had hours starting at 6:00 am so I did everything I had to do either before work or during my lunch hour. Luckily, retrieval and transfer fell on a day off and a Saturday but if not, I would have just taken sick time and not told anyone.
