Taking your chid out during flu season
My dd has been in the house all week, I feel terrible. I wanted to take her to the mall today, but Im nervous! Would you take your 19 month old out during this awful flu season, just to get them out of the house? Or keep them in?

Re: Taking your chid out during flu season
If I got the vaccinated, yes I would take them out.
if i didn't it would have to depend on where i was taking them.
If they are going to be in a stroller I woulnd't care where we went because I can control for the most part what they touch.

Re: Taking your chid out during flu season
Honestly, I am not a fan of staying in to avoid getting sick...........much to my mother's dismay. As long we are feeling fine I go out and about and live my life. I can't stay trapped in the house all day. Getting sick stinks but it's not the end of the world if it happens. I personally wouldn't stay home. Go to the mall, get out, and enjoy yourself. No reason to stay home if you're well.

Yep this. Plus AJ is in preschool so she's already exposed.
We do not take the flu shot in this house, but we are not going to stay locked in either. We just wash her hands and try to keep from touching our eyes, nose and mouth but we always do that.
I think staying inside gets you sick (old wives tale I'm sure) you NEED fresh air. Plus getting 'down' or bored to me also adds to getting sick. Staying active and healthy to me helps prevent illness. because active and out is happy and feeling good, i believe, helps boost your immune system.

Ditto I can't live like that. DD is vaccinated and unless the news is telling me we have the hanta virus like in the movie Outbreak flying around, I am not going to hide in the house. If I start doing that, then I'd never drive with her either- because what if we get in an accident? The list goes on and on...

i agree. The only thing i am being cautious about is like bounce places, and gyms, anywhere that has open play time. Not even for fear of the flu just that i dont want to deal with her being sick even if its just a cold/fever.

Re: Taking your chid out during flu season
fresh air is great for the immune system! I'd going outdoors before a mall but if the tot is in a stroller for the most part then you're fine.
Wash hands and practice good hygene as always.
DS does not have the flu shot, we take him everwhere.

Re: Taking your chid out during flu season
We have been going out but avoiding germy kids places like chucky cheese. I take him to stores and going to discovery time square this weekend. He has his flu shot and I am just bringing a hand sanitizer with us.

Re: Taking your chid out during flu season
If she has the flu shot, maybe. But early in the morning before it gets crowded.
If not, definitely no!

Re: Taking your chid out during flu season
My DS got the flu shot, but I did not. I've taken him to the supermarket and other stores, but we've avoided the open play places that we usually go to throughout the week (LICM, Once Upon a Treetop, etc.). They are usually germ fests, and given the fact that I'm pregnant, I really don't want to take that chance.

Taking your chid out during flu season
Definitely take her out - it's good to get fresh air and a change of scenery.
The flu is crazy this year but, you can't let the chance of getting it stop you from doing things. Just make sure you wash her hands really well.
