Talk to me about your hard wood !

.....floors!

What kind are they?
Where'd you get them?
Who put them down?
How much square footage did you do (and if you feel free, FM or post the total cost)
Any regrets or advice?
Or, what do you know about wood and the thickness or anything else.

Thanks.

Re: Talk to me about your hard wood !

What kind are they? Bruce Spiced Oak
Where'd you get them? Lowes
Who put them down? Our Contractor
How much square footage did you do (and if you feel free, FM or post the total cost) 1000 sq ft
We bought the flooring at lowes and paid $2.78 a sq ft which is inexpensive for wood flooring. When buying flooring, make sure you get 31/4" for thickness. That is what we bought. Also you will need red rosen paper. Lowes sells it in rolls. The red rosen paper goes down on your subfloor and then you install the wood over it.

Re: Talk to me about your hard wood !

We have three types of hardwood in our home - red oak (original floor), prefinished Brazilian Cherry and prefinished Kempas (African Cherry). We got the BC through our contractor (don't know where they got it) and the Kempas through Gold Coast Flooring in Bethpage. BC is about 900 sq ft and the Kempas about 450 sq ft. I really like the prefinished flooring. The Kempas is in the kitchen and dining room and it's held up really well. BC is in the bedrooms and hallway and also holds up very well. Love the colors also. We got the 1 3/4" because it can be refinished more times. Whoever installs your flooring, make sure they do the work themselves and don't sub it out.

What kind are they? BR111- they are one of the top of the line brands they say....I didn't know much about them but DH did

Where'd you get them? Long Island paneling

Who put them down? professional installer- friend of a friend

How much square footage did you do (and if you feel free, FM or post the total cost) about 1000 square feet, cost was $8 per square feet for the floors and then installation on top of that

Any regrets or advice? they were a LOT of money but I lvoe hem and would not change a thing....they are wide plank mahogany and absolutely beautiful

Or, what do you know about wood and the thickness or anything else.
not a whole lot, LOL! but we fell in love with this flooring and am so glad we did it!

Re: Talk to me about your hard wood !

we got ours from lumber liquidaotrs - we got a form of teak it was around $4 a sq foot and is prefinished and we got over 1000 sq ft

the teak is harder than oak which made for a lot bent nails on installation - but we had our own guys install and they are not that used to it -we also have an 80 lb goldren retreiver who was scratching the previous wood floor - so we went harder woodd- plus the prefinished stuff has a better warranty - the chemical they use cannot be used in a home because of ventilation/toxitiy of fumes but you don;t notice those when you install - ours has been installed for 4 months but we have not moved back in yet

but choosing an exotic wood becomes a problem when you need to do stairs- it took us forever to get the threads from lumber liquidator - oak is much easier to find for threads

lumber liquidaotrs had a much better price than any other place i looked
