I understand, but I still try to drink bottled water and always filtered water.
I think there is a lot of scientific research lacking in this matter. Not to mention the EPA has been very wrong about some pretty serious things. Also, there are a lot of leaking underground storage tanks and I don't know how much research has been made to their affect in the drinking water in the surrounding areas.
One thing that is a fact, there have been several cancer clusters outside NYC that have been linked to drinking water. I have noticed that a lot of women I know in LI are also developing cancer- specifically breast cancer.
Now I know there is no proof that links what I PERSONALLY consider to be cancer clusters to the drinking water, but its not really any chance I want to take.
Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong. But it makes me feel safer.
I agree. It may not be good for the environment, but when my oncologist (I had a scare a while back) suggested I don't drink the tap water, I listened.
Also, it just makes me feel better..but who knows where PS comes from really.
I guess it just puts my mind at ease until the day the PS is found to have bad effects.
LI has a very high incidence of BC. One of the top regions in the country..not sure where it lands in the rankings.

I am sorry but posts like these make me so angry. All of you who refuse to drink tap water, you are just buying into an industry that is playing on your "fears." There are NO STANDARDS for bottled water. Someone could take the water out of their toilet, put it in a bottle and sell it to you!!! Tap water goes through test after test and and if an unacceptable amount of contaminant is found, the water does not pass inspection and does not come out of your faucet. All the public water is tested and then treated before it comes to you. Its not like it is siphoned right out of the ground into your house. Also, you need to understand how the system here on LI works - we are drinking water that is thousands of years old, and is far under the ground. The pesticides and other harmful things that are going into the ground are not in our water... yet. And those of you who are concerned about this, I hope that you are using organic lawn care, otherwise you are just feeding into a problem that will affect FUTURE generations.
If you are really concerned that there is crap in the water here, then buy a brita filter for your faucet or buy one of their pitchers. But stop buying the bottles. You are throwing your money away. And hurting the environment.
I'll get off my soapbox now.
ETA: I just wanted to add that all the tests and levels of contaminants are public record. There are no secrets about this stuff.
