Target Vent
I am becoming increasingly displeased with Target..their return policy kind of stinks...
So I signed up for NY Cares to get a child a toy - the child wants the VTech Nitro Notebook. I have no kids, I have no idea how much this thing costs, but I go to Walmart - its onsale for $49.99.
I go back to work and look online - Target.com has it for $29.82 and on the side it says "find it in the store" - so I put in my zip code - it says it's in Medford, I go on my way home..it's there and rings up $49.99.????
I ask the Manager in Customer Service - they do not honor the prices on Target.com because they are "separate businesses". Aren't you still Target? Yes, but that's not our policy. Ok, it's not like I asked you to honor a Walmart price.

Re: Target Vent
It is annoying, but it's common at a lot of stores.

Yes because the overhead of different stores can vary GREATLY.

Re: Target Vent
That really stinks, though, because a lot of communities have opposition to "box stores," and to the extent that the resdents and the zoning laws of a community are receptive to, let's say, a target coming in, it may very well be becaus they feel that it will benefit their residents to have a store like what they believe target to be (discount) in the community. To the extent that it turns out to have marked up prices vis a vis online proces or other target prices, that's very unfair to the community.
I'm sorry that happened to you, but what a wonderful thng you were doing!

Re: Target Vent
I learned that the hard way last year.
They advertised a season of Nip/Tuck on the web for $24.99. So I went to the store only to see it priced at over $40

Re: Target Vent
The same thing happened to me at 6th ave. electronics last weekend, and it was a $100 price difference on a $400 electronics item! The guy was kind of rude about it too.

Re: Target Vent
For the amount of shipping they probably would have charged you, you'd probably end up paying what it cost in the store.
I love Target and I shop there all the time but their return policy is one of the worst now. It used to be much better. I registered there for our wedding and 3 months after the wedding, they just wiped out the registry with no notice. And if someone bought something from the registry online, I couldn't return it to the store, I had to ship it back. It bites!

Really? We were able to return from our registry, things people ordered online back to the store....and our registry is still up 6 months later. Weird!

The shipping was free, I ordered it online this morning, I paid $5.95 for wrapping, but it's still about $15 cheaper than if I got it from the store.

Good - I am glad you still got it cheaper!

Re: Target Vent
That's okay. One time I went to Target in Westbury for a kitchen table. They had sold out, called Valley Stream, and said that Valley Stream had them in stock. That was around closing on a Saturday night. I went to Target in Valley Stream at opening the next day and was told that they were out of stock but that Westbury had them. I went back to Westbury and was told they were out of stock but that Valley Stream had them. I gave up and ordered it on-line, getting it two months later.

Re: Target Vent
Your probably better off looking on something like amazon.com or checking ALL the toy websites for it. Target has been the only store i shopped at this year for Xmas. I got a lot of stuff there. I went there and spent a ton of money last week on scooters and night vision goggles. They rang me up for THREE night vision goggles at 74 dollars each when i only bought two. I thought the total seemed awfully high. I got home checked my receipt and saw that the cashier charged me for 3 instead of 2. I went back to the store and asked for my money back and they told me i had to wait 3 hours for them to look at the tape, because their computers were down. I told them i wasn't waiting 3 hours for my 75 bucks that they could give me money and check the tape later. Finally, after talking with 3 managers i got my money back right then and there. It was partly my fault i should have been watching the cashier more carefully instead of tending to my DC in the shopping cart who was grabbing everything! LOL! The next time i went i bought a bike for my DD at 49 dollars and the clerk charged me for two but this time i caught it!

I ask the Manager in Customer Service - they do not honor the prices on Target.com because they are "separate businesses". Aren't you still Target? Yes, but that's not our policy. Ok, it's not like I asked you to honor a Walmart price.
Yeah a lot of companies will not honor the online prices because they are a separate entity. Victoria's Secret is the same way. The stores are a completely different division than the "catalog".
I actually wanted to buy the Planet Earth Blu-Ray at target and I was stuck paying the $79.99 price at the store even though online the price was $59.99. Target would not honor the online price.
This is why WalMart is better than Target since they have a "Site to Store" option on their website.

Re: Target Vent
I have the same beef with Target. I bought my DS a game that was $59.99 in the store. I looked on line and it was $22. It was heavy so shipping was over $30. I was told the store and site are 2 different things. So why do they allow you to see the circular on line? Then the same game table was on sale this past week for $39. On the site it was now $39 too but with free shipping. I hate the games that these stores play, esp at the holidays. I did get an adjustment for the $20 difference.

Re: Target Vent
I also am becoming anti-target. If they are in fact two separate divisions then why do they allow you to see store availability? I need to get something for my NY Cares also and I check online. It said that the two Targets had the item in stock. I checked that morning. Neither had them by the afternoon. I thought that was crappy. I also do not like their return policy. I find stores are just getting ridiculous with their new policies.
