Re: tattoo question now
It's been a while since I've gotten one...but I would - at least for the first night (esp when sleeping).
Are you still not supposed to get it wet for a day or two?

Re: tattoo question now
I wouldn't. Just wear a clean (duh) cotton shirt if you can to keep it protected.
I am personally not a fan of wearing the gauze too long b/c it begins to sweat and/or will suck up all the goo.
plus I'd recommend A&D ointment (the clear, not the white cream) over Neosporin. There is an ingredient in Neosporin that may affect the color.

Re: tattoo question now
i have a tat on my lower back and when i took the gauze off the ink got all over my clothes .
i also left it on because my clothes would rub against it and it hurt me but your tat is higher and more to the side then mine is so i dont know if it would bother you as much as mine did
i would also let it breath for a little dont keep it covered to much . i took mine off when i was just relaxing not doing anything with my shirt rolled up and my pants rolled also so it didnt touch the tat

Re: tattoo question now
When I got my last tattoo, they told me to leave it covered for a few hours, remove the bandage, treat the tattoo and then let it breathe.

Re: tattoo question now
I was told to remove the bandage that night and then use the neosporin for a week on it, but to leave it uncovered.

Re: tattoo question now
Hmm, guess my memory is bad
I do remember using something other than Neosporin...but I really thought I slept with them covered the first night (I'm kind of a restless sleeper).

I completely agree take off the gauze after 2-3 hours, which is what I usually do.
And I wouldn't recommend Neosporin either because it will fade the color. I did that with my very first tat and it needed retouching a year later.
My very good friend is a tattoo artist and he said to post this... 1- Take your bandage off after 2-4 hours. DO NOT rebandage! 2- Wash lightly with soap and water, then pat dry. 3- Do not touch the tattoo for atleast one hour. 4- Apply a thin layer of A+D ointment (Or Bacitracin ointment) 2-3 times daily for 3 days. After 3 days, use hand lotion. (Non-Scented Lubriderm, for example.) 5- Do Not go swimming, or soak your tattoo in the tub until healed. 6- Showering is OK, but don't let the water directly hit the tattoo. Afterward, pat dry and re-apply ointment or lotion. 7- NEVER pick or scratch your tattoo. When it gets itchy, give it a slap. 8- Keep the tattoo out of direct sunlight for 2 weeks. Use sunscreen after healing to prevent fading.

Re: tattoo question now
I used a&d with gauze and to keep the gauze on, I wrapped my waist iwth saran wrap and did that for 2 days. Then I took the gauze off and just kept putting the a/d on for the next week. Avoid itching!!! The whole thing came off in the shower one day and that was the craziest thing ever. It looked like dragonfly wings!
