Our difference is huge...$8000+ difference from last year...but our salaries increased substantially and we forgot to change our withholdings. That's our fault...not Obama's

Did anyone else notice they are taking out more tax starting this past Jan 1st? My paycheck went down about $10-15 dollars, probably because the taxes went up so they have to withhold more.
Yes, my paycheck went down by $8 per pay period.

I don't get a refund because DH has to pay estimated taxes and we always owe. Blah.
I don't remember who said it, bit someone once suggested claiming more exemptions so that you get more $ in your paycheck and less of a refund. I think I'm going to do that when I go back to work. Claim 2--me and DD. SInce I don't get anything back anyway, may as well see it in my check.

We are getting alot less back this year than last year and we have a baby this year. Supposedly we crossed into the next tax bracket, although it doesn't feel like I have more money!

Thats our problem as well. Even though we didn't have a baby, we do have alot of deductions but since we hit the AMT our deductions are limited and don't matter.
I still don't understand why they don't adjust taxes based on where you live...ie cost of living taxes...there is no reason you should pay the same tax on 100K in NY that you pay in Nebraska. That 100K in Nebraska stretches just a wee bit further.

I still don't understand why they don't adjust taxes based on where you live...ie cost of living taxes...there is no reason you should pay the same tax on 100K in NY that you pay in Nebraska. That 100K in Nebraska stretches just a wee bit further.
For that matter, we should move to Alaska, South Dakota, Washington or Wyoming...none of those states have personal income taxes! But let's see if we can find a job there that PAYS $100K.
BTW, Florida, Nevada, and Texas have no personal income tax either.

Well, I never got ANY money from that Obama thing.. I think I am glad now if it was going to affect the amount of my tax refund.

Except i didn't. I never got more than my rate and I no extra line about in on my pay stub, like my co-workers and DH did. When everyone first got it, I didn't and still never have.

You had a say, I told my boss to keep my witholding exactly the same and I never noticed an increase or decrease in my take home pay. I also did not notice a difference in my take him pay for the new year.
THere are so many factors aftecting taxes that it is very simplistic to blame it all on Obama. A small raise can bring you inot a new tax bracket. Your payroll witholding would not get affected because you are a two wage earner household and one employer does not calcualte what taxes witheld on joint income only on that wage. I aalso noticed a big difference in my taxes when I stopped working OT. SO much was witheld when I worked OT that I would get it all back as extra at year end.

We are getting $4000 less than last year . Our salaries did increase but $4000 is a huge difference from last year. We were pretty ******...

This post scared the tomatoes out of me! I mean.. my husband was on unemployment for the better part of 2009 but didn't have any taxes withheld. And I had a bump in salary from 2008. Plus we wouldn't be getting too much toward childcare credit since Rob had been taking care of the boys. I really thought we might actually owe.
But.. our accountant called last night. We got a good sized refund.. only about 500 less than last year - but we didn't get that 1200 tax credit for child care so that accounts for it.
Of course Rob would prefer we have no refund so he's on me to adjust my withholding.. AGAIN. But at least we don't owe!! YAY!

That isn't the reason... dh makes a lot more than me, and he got it. i only work PT, so I don't make that much. Was there a lower threshold? MAYBE i DIDN'T MAKE enough?
I also somehow ended up with no federal withheld from my paycheck so maybe that is why.

No, seriously. If you made over a certain amount the credit was phased out completely. Read online. We absolutely did not get it.
