Tdap Shot and Stony Brook OBGYN
I'm not sure if this has been asked, but I know a lot of doctors give the tdap shot while you're pregnant, Stony Brook Obgyn administers it in the hospital after you give birth. I was just wondering if any of you that use the same ob plan on getting it while pregnant.

Did you ask them about getting it before hand? With my first, I got it at the hospital after delivery but this time my OB gave it around 30 weeks. He said they changed the recommendation so that the baby will get some of the immunity and that pertussis is on the rise. I'd ask them what they think of you getting it sooner and see what they say.

I have at my last three appointments. 3 different doctors. They all said mostly the same thing. As far as they know it doesn't cross the placenta... even tho the CDC is now recommending it the idea is still so new that pharmacists probably wont administer it. My husband and parents will be getting it soon tho.

I just called my primary and they said they're able to do it!
I definitely want it before I give birth. Even talking to the stony brook hospital nurse at the hospital tour said she likes when people get it before hand because some much other stuff is going on that adding the pain of the shot is unnecessary. Plus, I live in Sayville and I saw they had a case of whooping cough in Sayville High school.
I just want to protect LO as much as I can.

I used them and they never once mentioned it to me during pregnancy or in the hospital. I had gotten it just prior to getting pregnant though. If I hadn't, I would have asked to get it during pregnancy.

Ugh, I'm so frustrated. My doctor told me that I told them I got the tetanus shot in 2010 at the emergency room. I need to get the records so they know if it was the whole tdap or just tetanus because they won't administer it that close together. I have no idea what emergency room I went to either so this should be fun.

I am using Stonybrook midwives and I ask about both the flu shot and the whooping cough vaccine. She gave me the flu shot and said I can get the whooping cough in the hospital. I asked again at my next appt with another midwives and she said I can get at next appt. So that's when I will get it.... I'll be 34 weeks.
