Teacher Certification...
Is there a way you can lookup whether or not a teacher is really certified?

Re: Teacher Certification...
I beleive so but you have to be a district or school to access that info. I do know that at the beginning of the school year my district sends home (I'm a teacher) a letter to the parents documenting that all the teachers are highly qualified to teach and that they are certified in teh area they are hired. The letter also says that if the parent wants to check on a certification of their child's teacher, to contact the district office.

Re: Teacher Certification...
This is the topic of my household. We have a close family friend who still has not passed her tests and become certified in 7 trys!!! The first time I was sympathetic "ohh, you'll just take it again, you were prob nervous"..the second time "ohhhh, you'll do it next time"...by the 7th time,I feel like saying "get another profession already!!! " GIVE IT UP. This women substitute teaches all the time. Granted she lives in Ill. so maybe the laws are different, don't know. She has been offered a position in a Catholic school on a temp bases, pending certification. In my opinion,my husband & I are SO BOTHERED by this that we even asked our sons 3rd grade teacher..how many times did it take her to pass. We pay a hefty amount for private school and I would be p'oed to think this person teaching my child is not qualified.

Re: Teacher Certification...
There are tons who need to retake the exam. But to be able to teach without passing them is BS. Besides, my opinion, but those tests do not necessarily test how well you will teach

I just spoke to DH now. He said that if you google NYS Teacher certification there should be a website with a list of the teachers. Hope that helps.

Re: Teacher Certification...
You used to be able to just punch in the name on the NYS Ed Dept site, but now you need the SS# to get the person's information.

Re: Teacher Certification...
I recently verified my status online. I needed my name, last 5 digits of my SS#, zip code.
