Teacher fired for Invitro
LInk to News Article
Link to the Woman's Website about her story with Picts of the Girls
I am so disgusted with the Catholic Church now. I was brought up catholic and I have always been aware of some of the issues but I also felt that most religions are hypocrites in some way or another......so I continued to go to Catholic church. But, Now.....I am so Offended!!!!! I am a very spiritual person. MY DH (who is not Catholic, but Jewish) doesn't believe in organized religion. I now understand why!
I am so sad for this woman because after all that she's been through to have these girls and then to be given a pink slip!!!! Arghh! This aggravates me!
This is the final straw for me. I will no longer continue to go to the Church....even out of respect for my parents. I think that is why I continued to go there! I was in denial about infertility and I was in denial with my faith.....but, No longer!
I know other religions feel the same way.

Re: Teacher fired for Invitro
It's shocking but it's not, I remember other stories where single teachers got pregnant and were fired from Catholic schools... They have a morals clause and usually that's the reason
This doesn't turn me away from the Church, I'm pretty much a pick & choose Catholic, which works for me. I had premarital sex, used birth control, etc so I've always done what works for me. I also believe that God will accept and love my child, even if through IVF, just like that child will be also be christened in the Church.

I do hear ya.....many catholics are like this. Actually, I guess you will find some churches not as structured as others. I guess it really depends on the church. What makes it so hard for me is that being catholic is part of who I am and it is just hurtful to hear this kind of stuff. At times, I feel like such a hypocrite going to church. But, I do enjoy going because it gives me solace. I have gone to church on a few occassions when I wanted to walk out. Not many.....but a few. I will do some soul searching. LIke you, I know God will love my child whether or not it is through IVF. We have moved quite a few times, and finding a church you like can be difficult.

Re: Teacher fired for Invitro
I used to live in fear when I taught in Catholic school.
I remember when they changed our health insrance over the summer, never informed us until AFTER. We had a meeting the first day back with an administrator from the new company. I stood around for an hour after the meeting and waited until all of the nuns left so I could ask if our birth control pills would still be covered. I had to ask for all of the women, married and single, because they were all too afraid to ask.
One teacher was living with a guy for 20 years but the nuns could never find out or she would be fired, yes, even after 20 years of service.
Thank God I don't teach there anymore.
"Hi, my name is Theresa. I am a recovering Catholic. I have been liberated from the hypocracy for 11 years now"... "Hi Theresa...

Re: Teacher fired for Invitro
How terrible !
Those precious baby girls !
the Catholic church should be ashamed for MANY things they do, such as continually holding out a hand ($) as they say God Bless you. there I said it
I can go on and on... In Italy, one of the priests constantly asked for donations from the people, they gave and gave, as his house got bigger and nicer... needless to say in small towns, word travels fast...
My priest made me feel terrible for not getting married in church (got married outdoors) my words to him were "Father, I was taught that GOd was everywhere, isnt that correcT?" how dare they make me feel bad

Re: Teacher fired for Invitro
Its sad...I 100% agree.
I see it often at work, we are the insurer for many Catholic schools and churchs and the women call about infertility testing and say well the NYS mmandate allows us to go for this testing and I have to say yes, but you work for a Catholic organization, they are exempt and refuse to cover it.
