teacher interviewed on the news
A teacher was on the news complaining that he found out at 6:00am that his school was closed and he was already almost at work. He also was very upset that school was closed since he was going to prep his kids for the math test. Is one day going to make such a difference? What was he doing for the last three months?

Re: teacher interviewed on the news
They did announce the closing for NYC Schools a little late....I would have been on my way already.
I think though that they moved the test back a day.
Either way I am glad we had off!

They did move the test back one day. I do agree, though, that they need to take into consideration the employees way out east.

To reply to the original poster-
I only spend 2-3 days getting ready for the test.. my principal does not allow any more time than that. So essentially we lost a critical day to do a practice test and we didnt get it postponed either.

Re: teacher interviewed on the news
our test was postponed a day however, there are teachers in my building who were already on their way when he announced that schools were closed - kind of unnecessary

Re: teacher interviewed on the news
he has reason to be upset. considering the road conditions, the nyc school employees shouldve known sooner that they would not be at work. people come a long way to go to work!
as far as the test, its out of everyones control!! it was not safe for the kids to go in that day.

Re: teacher interviewed on the news
It was too late for announcements..it is not a secret that the mayor does not care for teachers (especially ones not paying city taxes because they live out of NYC), but what about the parents who needed to make plans for their children?
As for the test..if they don't know it the day before...they are not learning the entire thing in a day...

Re: teacher interviewed on the news
a few years ago, the person after me on the phone chain had already left for work. They literally got me 15-20 minutes before I left. So I tried to find her cell phone and finally called my chair and he waited at the school to tell her.
