Teachers and pumping breast milk.
Does anyone know the DOE policy about pumping breast milk on the job?

Don't know anything about NYC but I think it's a federal mandate that you must provide a space for nursing moms to pump at work. My SIL is a guidance counselor and they put a lock on her office door so that she could pump when she needed to.

Your school has to give you a private place to do it. They dont have to give you time though I believe. I think we have to use our preps...

They are required to give you a place to do it.

Is your classroom practical? I was planning on just covering the window of my door and locking my door and pump-

Re: Teachers and pumping breast milk.
I have other staff in my classroom at all times, so the classroom is definitely out. It's by the students' cafeteria, so they tend to pass by a lot and say hi as well. I heard some teachers pump in the bathroom. We do have one single bathrom in the whole school that is somewhat private. It's inside of another office and you could basically hear everything that is happening. But what about storage? Do I need to get my own minifridge or cooler? Ican't very well use the teachers' "lounge" (and I use the term loosely) and leave the milk in the common fridge.

They have to give you a private space to pump, but you have to figure out your time to do it. I would not pump in the bathroom...would you cook in a bathroom? I think not, so you shouldn't have to resort to producing your child's milk in a bathroom.
