Teachers College Workshop Model?
I've noticed some of the schools use the TC workshop model. They didn't cover this at Hofstra, but I was wondering if there were books or information on this model? I just want to be able to familiarize myself with it.
Thanks!

Re: Teachers College Workshop Model?
Are you secondary or elementary? If you are middle/HS, a great book would be Nancie Atwell's In The Middle (which isn't as explicit as the TC model, but useful)
I think Guiding Readers and Writers by Fountas and Pinnell has come up the most with regard to being THE Bible for teaching with the workshop model, though the focus is elementary school. I have been to lots of PD, workshops, etc. and that book seems to be the one referenced most, and I think it strongly influenced the TC model.

Re: Teachers College Workshop Model?
I'm elementary. I'm very familiar with Guided Reading/Writing (that was pretty much what all of my literacy classes were based on), but I wasn't sure if the TC model was different or not. I was looking to apply to some schools, and one said "Must be familiar with TC workshop model" so I wasn't sure if it was different from Fountas and Pinnell or not.
Thanks for the info!

Check out Scope classes. I took one on Writer's Workshop and Reader's Workshop from someone who went to TC.

I highly, highly recommend The Art of Teaching Reading by Lucy Calkins, as well as The Art of Teaching Writing by the same author.
I graduated from the Literacy Master's program at TC, so if you have any questions, let me know.

Re: Teachers College Workshop Model?
I teach in Nassau, and there are only a handful of teachers that do it...the city ones come out and know it...I am not required to know or do it, like the city school, but I like it and have taught myself by reading and research on the web. It is good to know since my principal and AP both are into it but unfamiliar with the practice.
