Teachers- HEALTH PLANS?

I work in NYC and right now I have GHI-CBP and that is the basic plan.... now that we are getting ready to TTC...we need to get a better insurance to cover basics for the pregnancy.

What health plan do you currently have and do you about how much it costs? Or ballpark? ANy information would be helpful...thank youChat Icon

Do they have a website where you can compare the plans? My husband is a federal employee & they have a site that you can do that. Sorry I am no help.

Hmm I'm a teacher and I believe that is the plan we use.... I wasn't planning on switching. Is there a reason I should look into different plans? What's wrong with that one for TTC? Chat Icon It's great so far...... the $15 copays Chat Icon Although those were never for TTC appts...... my first TTC appt w/ my OB is in 3 weeks Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I just assumed it didnt include coverage for pregnancy because its the most "basic" package. Does it include sonograms and stuff? What about coverage for our stay at the hospital?

Yes, we also have the $15 copay for the gyno as well....but I wasnt sure how much it covered with all the other stuff that comes along with having a baby.... Chat Icon We want to make sure we are covered soon so that when I actually do get PG, we wont encounter money issues.

When is your 1st TTC appt?? Mine is at the end of September!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Ohh ok, well I'm actually not sure about any of the benefits we get on that plan for having a baby....Definitely something I SHOULD know though!! I remember once hearing something on the board that it was $350(copay) for the hospital stay when you give birth, but I don't remember what exactly that covered (how many nights, vaginal vs. c-section.....) So, if you find out anything let me know and I'll do the same! Chat Icon

My TTC appt is for September 22nd Chat Icon

Also on a side note... as a teacher, are you at all worried about wide-spread swine flu in your school while being pregnant? Sorry, I know this is off topic from your original post, it's just on my mind Chat Icon

here is a link to a previous post about GHI. I don't think there is any reason to switch.

x - post GHI

Also, I wouldn't freak about the swine flu. It's a flu....it's just been blown out of proportion by the media. As a teacher you are going to be exposed to a lot of illnesses. I don't think that the swine flu is a reason to freak out.

Re: Teachers- HEALTH PLANS?

I have GHI also, and had no plans to switch. My midwife is under their plan, and she delivers in Winthrop. I have a $15 copay per visit, and other $15 copay if I need any kind of diagnostic testing from a lab (like a pap). I know the hospital copay is $200.

Re: Teachers- HEALTH PLANS?

if you are prenatal and already pregnant you do not pay a co-pay for each visit. Only the 1st visit. I would say something if they are charging you for every visit if you are already pregnant.
