Team Building Exercises or Game for Corporate Party

I need help. My dept is holding an event with the entire staff and I've been selected to select a team building exercise or a game for dinner.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm so bad with stuff like this.

There are approximately 15 people in the room who don't know everyone so I was thinking more of a segway into getting to know someone w/o really knowing them (does this make sense). PLEASE SAVE ME. I HAVE A CONFERENCE CALL ON MONDAY AND NEED TO PROVIDE AN UPDATE.

I thought about a murder mystery - I don't know - I'm rambling at this point.

I did this in a college class - we were told to order ourselves by date of birth (month, day only) in a certain period of time - there were 50 of us and it was 5 mins, i think.

It encouraged communication, brought out leaders, etc.

If everyone doesn't know each other well, you could come up with a list of characteristics on a sheet of paper. Everyone has to mingle around and find one person who matches each characteristic without having anyone's name on their paper more than once.

For example, your lists might include:

1) This person is left handed
2) This person was born outside the US
3) This person is the youngest sibling in their family
4) This person has blue eyes


Make it a decent sized list (but you can't have more items than there are people participating)

It forces people to get up, talk to different people and learn little things about each other.

You could have everyone who will be attending submit a picture of themselves when they were a baby or child. Blow them up and see who can get the most correct guesses as to who the baby pictures belong to.

You could make it a team thing by having teams of 3 and seeing which team has the highest number of correct guesses.

We did this at one of our meetings and it was hysterical!

when we did this at work, we had everyone post one thing about themselves that no one else may know

someone put all this information together onto a spreadsheet and we had to walk around and see who matched up with all the "facts"...the 1st one to complete the spreadsheet won a small prize

my "secret" was that I have 6 tattoos

eta - I also found out that one of my co-workers is an identical TRIPLET

If there are 15 people make up 15 "Hello my name is" tags and write the name of celebrities/famous people -- each person gets a sticker on their back (so they dont know who they are but everyone else does) and then everyone plays a "20 questions" kind of game ..... "Am I an athlete?" "Am I a president" etc the other person can only answer yes or no ...... It can get pretty funny if you throw a Britney Spears or Sarah Palin in the mix.

I went to a team building event once....we were split up into teams and every team was given art supplies like pipe cleaners, wooden sticks, plastic blocks etc and we had to "build a bridge"....it was actually pretty fun and interesting to see how creative people could really be!
