I was just  when i read that! That is crazy! The court had to disclose her occupation and salary...no wonder she made her $5,000 bail so fast! I think im going to be sick...

That is EXACTLY what i was wondering...teens will think having a baby as a teenager will score them alot of money...."but theye did it on teen mom", i can just see the excuse now when she tells her parents....i hope im wrong!

I really really really hope that most of that is in a fund for Amber.
Paying her a small amount for the show and setting aside a trust fund or college fund for the babies would be a good idea IMO because they are going to have the face the embarrassment of this their entire lives and are often born into less than ideal circumstances where savings/college is harder to come by.
If they are just paying Amber outright, I'd be disgusted. Would explain why Caitlynn's mom is now driving a beemer though...

I always b!tch that this show is bad for this reason! real teens don't get paid and I feel like teens watch this show and think, if they could do it so could I, I'm in a better place, not realizing the show pays them a lot of $$! on top of the salary, they get a lot of things for free as well.
I will admit I watch it and love it, but I think its a bad influence of teens. I don't think teens see enough of the bad.

I really don't get why people think this show sends teen pregnancy rates up -- especially when a report was just released that teen pregnancy is actually DOWN this year.
I don't have such little faith in all teenagers to think that they will watch a show and be so disillusioned into believing they will make $280K a year getting on that show. Anyone who thinks that would likely be a dumb@ss at any age.
Any teen I know who has seen the show, says they never really thought about how HARD it is to be a teen mom.

I knew they got paid but didn't think it was THAT much  I was reading up on Amber a month or so ago and they mentioned "a home that Portwood owns." I was wondering how she could afford to purchase a home...I guess I don't have to wonder anymore!

I'm surprised people are that shocked by the salary.
People on these shows are grossly overpaid while we all bust our @sses in the real world.
It's really not that different than seeing that someone that is as big of a train wreck as Charlie Sheen makes almost TWO MILLION DOLLARS an episode.
Let me repeat that....2 million dollars....PER EPISODE.
Why is no one up in arms and going nuts about the fact that a wife beater, drunk, and drug addict makes that kind of salary?
We all know that tv personas -- be it on a reality or fictitious show are grossly overpaid for the garbage they produce.
I've always said that I don't get how these moms "struggle" on the show, when they HAVE to be getting paid something from MTV. My biggest issue at this point, is how fake this show is being now, showing how Amber & Gary have to go to free clinics or can't afford anything for a birthday party except at the dollar store. It seems a lot of this has become more staged than ever before.
