Teen party gift question

Thanks all! I'll give a check similar to what he got. Just wasn't sure if GC was appropriate too in same amount, but everyone said money.

Thanks!

Id give back what you got since your party was recently - maybe $75 though.

Teen party gift question

My daughter just had her Sweet 16 and the average gift was $50 unless it was a very close friend or family.

Teen party gift question

I don’t see why this is any different than the other parties.
Just match the gift closely…$70 or $75

I wouldn't compare it to a bar mitzvah, but I guess more of a Sweet 16 type party. My son studied his torah for 6 months.

So is it a Sweet 16 or is it just a random big birthday party? Or some kind of religious event?

I would give back what they gave you, just as you did for the other bar mitzvahs. I don’t see why it being a girl or not a religious event would have any bearing on a gift. So either $72 or $75.

I don't think that most guests at a bar mitvah care that the kid had to study and prepare for it with regards to how much they give as a gift. That is something that your son chose to do as part of his religious upbringing. I would say the same for a confirmation gift. A lot of work goes into getting confirmed. Years of religious education and volunteer work etc. But if you have a party people are going to give whatever they are comfortable giving.

It's a 13th birthday party. I'm guessing like a sweet 16. It's at a fire house and I believe they have a DJ and all. SO I will give $70 or $75

Had nothing to do with it being a girl or religious thing. Was just trying to see if people compare it to a sweet 16 or bar mitzvah type since that's where the kids are at. It's his first just big bday party that's not a boy where they are going to Top Golf or a fancy bar mitzvah he's invited to. It sounds like just a fancy 13th birthday party I mean

Wow for a 13th birthday? Honestly I would give like $30 then.

Thanks! This is why I was confused. I do think she's having a DJ and it's 4 hours. They rented the hall at a Fire House and it's all just kids. I heard she invited about 75 kids.
I will do more. SHe was at my son's bar mitzvah in May and they gave $72. He's either been at bar/bat mitzvahs or goes to a friend's 13th party at a place or sleepover. It was just different.

In that case, I think $75 is a bit much. I think something in the $50 range is better. It's just a birthday party.

Ok I change my answer then. I was thinking it was a sweet 16. If it's a random 13 year old party then I think it would be OK to do less. Maybe $50 then if they are having a big thing with a DJ.

I have literally never heard of a big 13th birthday party at a hall.
To be honest it seems like she is jealous of her friends who are having bar and bat mitzvahs at this age and wanted a big party of her own.
I hear something new every day, I swear.

Exactly and makes no sense. Any place out of NY would probably give $20 but because we think if you have something outside of the house, you need to give more. Not really OUR problem how much they choose to spend. Maybe I am cheap but $50 seems a lot too for a 13 yr old party. I spend that much on a 50 year olds party.

Teen party gift question

Several kids in my DH’s family had 13th birthday parties like this. Basically a bar/bar mitzvah without the temple part. Not sure if this is what’s going on here, but from what I understand it’s fairly common in very reform circles.

If the party is equivalent to a bar/bat mitzvah minus the religious aspect, I’d still reciprocate the same gift she gave your son.

Wow, that's interesting I never knew that.
I went to a lot of bar and bat mitzvahs of my friends growing up but never a 13th bday party like that.
