teens and money?
I heard something yesterday that floored me about a teen carrying around excessive, unearned (from family not a job) cash. Maybe I'm behind the times, but is it normal for teens to possess and carry around hundreds of dollars? Not like a trust or anything, complete and total autonomous access to hundreds of dollars? I'm wondering if I need to start raising my DDs allowance. LOL.

Never heard of that but maybe that is in more affluent neighborhoods?
My teen dd does not have an allowance but does get money to go out with friends and for things she needs.

It depends on the teen and the family. I think it's normal. It could be birthday money.

To me it seems like a very teen thing to do. You get birthday money or holiday money, and you carry it all around with you until you spend it.
I always used a bank account and atm card. My brothers always carry all their money around with them. I think they want to look cool.

Yeah, I can see that but not on a daily basis. I wouldn't let my kids do that but I am sure many parents do.

I would never let any of my kids walk around with that kind of money. Knowing them, they would definitely lose it.
I don't even walk around with hundreds of dollars.
