Teething and mid night wakings

How do you handle it when your teething 13 month old wakes up in the night? I am assuming because the Motrin wore off. But then all she wants to do is play! She screams her head off to the point of throwing up if I put her in the crib but happily takes 7 oz of milk. Chat Icon Chat Icon

This happened a few times in the last 2 months since she started getting teeth but now it's 3 times THIS WEEK. Chat Icon I brought her into our bed but she will not sleep in our bed. Only play and watch tv so I can't even do that. Not that I want that habit.

Should I let her CIO? Give her motrin/milk? Deal with it since it's part of parenting? I'm exhausted. Chat Icon

If you can tell she's in pain, maybe you can give her the teething tablets instead - to ease up on the motrin?

What I started to do, was, if I noticed DS' gums/teeth were really bothering him before he went to bed, I would just give him the teething tablets. That way, if he woke up in pain, I could go to the motrin. I've only had to go to the motrin twice, 3 times at most.

I feel your exhaustion...Charlie is teething again - her 2y molars at 16m Chat Icon

I just suck it up during this time and bring her into bed with us (she wakes in the 4 o'clock hr), nurse her and she'll go back to sleep for another couple of hours (thankfully).

I alternate between the Tylenol & Motrin (every couple of nights, I switch) but I only give it to her before bed. I also give her some ice before her bath to numb up her mouth...it seems to help a bit.

Good luck...hope you get some rest & your little one gets some relief, soon...

Re: Teething and mid night wakings

If we know its teething, we give him motrin before bed. When he got up at night, we used to go in and rock him for a bit. But then 1 nightwaking turned into 3 or 4. No matter how long you rocked him, once you put him down he'd scream again. He just wanted to be held. Sometimes we would give him milk if he didn't drink much at all during the day.

But as mean as it sounds, we let him CIO for the most part. We have tried putting him in bed with us but he just wants to play once we do that. So there's really nothing else we can do. Now when he gets up (not lately thank god), he usually only cries for 5 minutes tops.

Ugh, I know how frustrating this is. Will she go to sleep without motrin and just teething tablets? If she will, if she wakes up in the middle of the night, give her the motrin.

Not sure about the bottle in the middle of the night though, she really could be getting hungry but I know that is not a habit you want to start again either.
