tell me about Commack!
DH and I went out to Commack yesterday to visit my aunt and uncle. We LOVE my aunts block, we thought they were selling but they have decided to stay put for now. Anyway, there is a house for sale 3 doors away from them and DH and I are now really toying with the idea of looking at it. What is the commute to penn like from commack? Is it a nice area for young families? My cousins are always over my aunts house with their kids and I think it would be awesome for DS to see his extended family that much! My parents and inlaws are in queens but my siblings and their spouses/kids are in eastern nassau and western suffolk. So we would be closer to sooo much family! I just don't know about that penn commute for DH and being so far from DS's grandparents...

Re: tell me about Commack!
There is no train station in Commack so depending on which side of Commack you are on will tell you where to take the train from. Deer Park, Kings Park, Northport. I don't think any of them are great and will be an hour or more depending on tranfers.

Re: tell me about Commack!
I love Commack. It's a great area for families, alot of areas have spacious properties and nice sized houses. Great schools, lots of shopping, etc. There is no train there. You could drive to Huntington or Northport for the LIRR. Many people do it. Can't speak personally on that but it's doable and to me the trade off for a longer commute is well worth it.

Re: tell me about Commack!
For me, I would not want to commute to Penn from there. It's just too far. You might want to consider certain parts of East Northport or Centerport or Greenlawn. These will all put you closer to the Huntington train station which has the best train options in this area and they are also all close enough to Commack that you could easily visit family there.

Re: tell me about Commack!
We moved to Commack about 2 years ago.
I commute to Queens by car and DH works in Syosset. It's not bad. I took the train to the city last week for work and I left from Deer Park. You don't need a sticker to park there and the lot is big. The ride was an 1 hour 10 minutes. It really wasn't so bad.
As for the area. It's great. A mix of older and younger families. Nice neighborhoods. Schools are good (DD is only 9.5 months old so no personal comments on that, but I do have friends that work in the district).
I like that Jericho Tnpk has EVERYTHING you would need on it. And I am close to the parkways.
Our families all live in Nassau. It's about 25 minutes to my parents house. At first my mom freaked about the "commute" and now admits that it's not that far.

I was going to say this. Commack is a great location, not far from Walt Whitman or Smithaven mall. And just anything you could want to be close to, you are IMO.

I know they have great schools and great shopping....not sure if I would want to commute to Penn everyday, it depends on your hours.

Re: tell me about Commack!
Thank you!! We are looking to sell our co-op in bayside and buy a house on LI. We are looking all over nassau- merrick, bellmore, wantagh, mineola, east meadow, garden city. But DH and I have always loved Commack, I have lots of family in the area, we are out there all the time. When we saw a house for sale on my aunts block we thought it may be a sign. We are excited about looking into the house further. The house is in the area closer to Kings Park.
