Tell me about your dog training experience!
Who did you use? Was it group or private? What was the cost? Did the training really work?
Thanks!

Re: Tell me about your dog training experience!
I have posted my bad experience with Mutt Manners before, but to sum it up:
I used their 2 week board and train. My puppy came home sick with kennel cough. He didnt learn all his comamnds. A training apprentice "trained" my dog, not a full trainer. It cost me 1500 plus a vet bill. They never called us again or gave us our follow up at home lessons.
If I do it again, I will use Wally from Canine Complete.

Did the training really work?
I think that the key to the training "working" is twofold -- The owner needs to be actively engaged in the class and learn how to train the dog. Additionally, the owner must be consistent with the commands / practice at home. Training animals is about communication and consistency - if you don't learn how to communicate properly with the dog, then the dog won't respect or listen to you. Also, if you aren't consistent in what you expect and don't practice what you expect, then the dog will be confused and won't be as obedient.
Good luck! It's been a while since I've had a young dog, so I'm sorry to say I don't have any recommendations.

Re: Tell me about your dog training experience!
I am actually in the process of the 8 week beginer training program at PetSmart and I have to say I would recommend it. It's a great way to learn basic commands and to bond with your pet. The key is actually taking what you learn and doing it at home, being constant, etc.. a dog is not going to learn something in an hour and remember it in 3-days unless you keep up with it.
Example: I have always learned, say if your pet jumps, you can tell a dog to not jump, don't give treat, etc..9 times and the 10th time if you change your swing and praise, that is it, command is not going to work and the dog now knows "if I keep doing it and I get in trouble 9 times, on the 10th time, I get a treat" So it is all about the owner as well as the pet.
They have different level of classes also
Wanted to add: Price was $120 for 8 weeks
