so we went to the mall - and i have to tell you- i was pissy for a little while. i ended up getting a burberry cashemere nova check scarf and a tiffany ball necklace. two things i wanted for a long time.
he took me to an awesome dinner at this restaurant i love, bottle of wine etc. it ended up being a really nice evening, he also wrote me a really beautiful card and verbally said "no more shopping trips for your birthday".
since he knows that now, I forgive him. and to be honest, the stuff that i got at the mall, he NEVER would have picked out in a million years.

So its my birthday tomorrow. Dh asked me what I wanted and i gave him a list of stuff 2 weeks ago with links to everything. Any one of those things I would have been happy with.
Anyway, all week long he tells me what a great gift he has for me. So I was excited.
Well today hes like, well instead of a gift I will you take you shopping to this mall with a set amount to spend.
A- he did that last year and he HATES shopping so I was going through stores like a lunatic at record pace trying to find something I liked. Instead of getting something fancy I bought alot of stuff in H&M because I am practical.
B- For once, I JUST want a present- I dont want to go to the mall with him- and shop for my own thing!
c- to me ita like- ive got no time to buy you a gift so you can do it yourself
I know Im lucky to get any gift at all but imho i think he sholld have bought something off the list

I think you should tell him exact;y what you just told us. Tell him you don't mean to sound ungreatful, but it would be nice if he could go a little out of his way to get something for you, because shopping for yourself isn't exactly thoughtful.

ugh! I don't know why, but this makes me mad.
shopping for yourself is not a present! I don't know about anyone else, but 1/2 the fun is ripping the package open and seeing what you got. he put no thought into it, and that is what bothers me the most.
my DH would be in trouble!

My husband does the SAME THING. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And, he hates to shop too, so when I am looking, he just stands there and watches me, follows me, HAWKS me. I would tell him thats NOT what you want, and you gave him a list of things he can get you, and he has until tomorrow to pick one.

i don't think it would bother me that much. yes, i would give dh a list. there could be various reasons why he could get what was on the list

I don't blame you at all.
It's better than what I got this year which was NOTHING. Yes, you read that right - NOTHING.
DH is so good about bringing roses home for no reason, but why no birthday gift?? It really hurt me at the time. I feel like I have been holding a 7 month grudge because I am purposefully not getting him anything this year to have him see how it feels. I don't even think he will realize it.

I don't know. I told my DH to do this for my birthday (which is in two weeks). But I am doing it to be practical. I will be 14 weeks pregnant and I will need maternity clothes soon, so I rather he take me shopping (I don't even know what I would buy at this point, so having him try to buy me maternity clothes would be kind of useless). We are kinda strapped for cash and if he wasn't doing this, I probably would tell him not to get me anything.
At least he didn't have his mom pick something out like my BIL did to my SIL and it was a leather jacket--when she is a card carrying member of PETA!!

first.. I hope you pick out something awesome..second..I think alot of times the men do this because of a fear of picking something you will not like..doing it this way ensures you will like it...just a thought. I am going through something similar right now, My birthday is in november and my BF is actually asking me should I get you this?? or that??..meanwhile he KNOWS what kind of stuff I like..and I am like..just get whatever, I dont want to pick my birthday gift..but I can tell he just wants to make sure its something I like....Hvae a great day tomorrow!!!!
