Tell me i'm being ridiculous...
Sunday night I got sick from food DH and I had from the restaurant across the street from us. I had lasagne and it was DELICIOUS- but a half hour later I had bad stomach cramps and threw up once and Had to go to the bathroom a few times.
Anyway, I stayed home from work yesterday and felt a little queasy in the morning but then I was fine.
I am not bleeding or cramping or anything, but I haven't felt the baby since Sunday afternoon. Now keep in mind- I only feel the baby every so often, and it is just some taps and thumps. DH felt a kick ONCE last week and we haven't felt anything that strong since. I am 23 weeks today but have anterior placenta, so it's expected.
Anyway- the reason I am worried is because my belly seems to have gotten smaller. It is still there...but not as big as it was looking. It COULD have been bloated before, but I haven't been constipated at all, so I don't know why I would be bloated so much?
I probably sound crazy, but do you think the baby is okay? I don't want to call the doctor and sound looney!

I'm sure the baby is okay, but maybe I would just call your doctor and explain that you ate something bad and got sick off it, they may instruct you what to do in the next few days. What's key is that you didn't dehydrate yourself, but I would just give them the heads up. It will also make you feel more at ease. Feel better!

Re: Tell me i'm being ridiculous...
u know...im 16 weeks and yesterday i was like..gees..my belly doesnt look as big today. I had my 4wk checkup with the dr. so i was worried just a little that something would be wrong. Thats how i am usually before dr's appts anyway.
could be that you're just not as bloated today, and maybe the barfing had something to do with that.
doesnt hurt to call the dr.to tell them you got sick, but im sure all is well.

Re: Tell me i'm being ridiculous...
Your baby is fine! I go through this every other week. Last week I didn't feel too many kicks and felt good so I was worried. This morning I almost threw up and got excited about it. Some days my belly is huge, other days not so much. I think pregnancy makes us all nuts!

Re: Tell me i'm being ridiculous...
I wouldn't worry about the size at all it probably had a lot to do with bloat, some weeks my belly seemed so much bigger then weeks after. I'd wake up and be surprised I seemed smaller than the day before...

Re: Tell me i'm being ridiculous...
my belly feels smaller to me than it did last week - i think the baby changed positions! He's sitting more towards my back now (trust me, I feel the pressure!)
Totally normal.
Glad you're feeling better!

I'm thinking your belly looks smaller because you got sick. If I throw up or have diarrhea my stomach looks smaller.

Re: Tell me i'm being ridiculous...
How many weeks are you again?
It's totally normal, especially in the 2nd trimester, for the kicks to be unpredictable and sporadic. I've had plenty of days where the latke is kicking up a storm, and then by the same token, plenty of days where it is relatively quiet.
But if you have any concerns, call the doc. They can check the heartbeat very quickly which will give you all the reassurance you could possibly need!
By the way, I had awful food poisoning and/or the norovirus in my 2nd trimester. I was soooooooo worried but the doctor assured me that it wouldn't affect the baby, which it didn't.

Re: Tell me i'm being ridiculous...
You're not being ridiculous. You're just concerned.
I would call and put your mind at ease.

Re: Tell me i'm being ridiculous...
I would not worry so much about the size of your stomach bc I know i still have days like that. But if it will give you peace of mind, call the OB & explain what happened. Worst case, they have you come in for a sono or HB check.
