I guess I'm in the minority here. While I personally think it's gross to sell my hard pumped BM to some perv and they were incredibaly stupid for actually GOING to that guys house- I think that to get into a moral debate with someone about it is a bit much.
Different strokes for different folks I say. It's her BM- let her do with it what she wants.
I mean, I suppose I could get into a moral debate about women who choose to FF*, or get into a moral debate about women who choose to drink while nursing*. BUT- I don't because it's NONE of my business.....
*Just said to make a point
I think their moral debate was because they KNEW what this guy would use it for...and contributing to someones perversion and profiting off of it, well i guess would be up for a moral debate to some. I know you said the feeding FF was to make a point...but TOTALLY Different!!!! That isn't a moral issue at all. That is a personal issue and is used to nourish and feed a child. Completely different.
**Disclaimer** I am saying this to make the moral connection!! Well- if you think about it- "everyone" knows that BM is best, right? Even studies have proven it. Lets say my sister hates the idea of having a baby sucking on her boob. Or my cousin decides-"BFing is too inconveniant". Then by choosing to feed formula- even though they KNOW BM is better for their baby couldn't there be a "moral debate" there? Thats what I meant.
My mother in law believes that drinking is a sin. Does that give her the right to get into a moral debate about the fact that we had alcohol at our wedding? Or what about the COUNTLESS couples who use "toys" in the bedroom- believe me- some of the stuff I've done with DH might make someone's hair stand on end!!? And to go even FURTHER- I mean, jeez- isn't having sex for any reason other than procreation considered *immoral* by whole religions?
I guess my point is- everyone's level of comfort is different. To choose not to speak to someone because they are doing something that may be considered "yucky" but is really not hurting anyone seems a bit harsh.
Other than the stupidity of bringing their children to this guys house, really- is anyone getting hurt?

Isn't it actually "illegal" to sell body fluids?
Isn't it regulated by the FDA to sell food/drinks, etc..?
Just a thought

money or no money....you dont EVER put you child in harms way. What is wrong with people taking their kid to some perverts house.
I think that is the worst part of the whole thing. As for them selling the bm to this guy, if it doesn't bother them it sure doesn't bother me. Personally I couldn't do it, but I'm not them. The kids should have been left out of it though.

I actually googled it and in some states it is illegal- but not all.
But heres another thought- is it morally wrong that I and my husband have tasted my BM? I mean- BM is obviously not *meant* to be consumed by adults....?

I think anyone is "entitled" to do anything they want (kind of!). But from I gather form the OP and other posters, it's the fact they sold it knowing the guy was using it for "pervert" purposes and they brought their DC to deliver the BM to a pervert.

To each his own.
Except where the children are concerned. Bringing them to a strange house where you know there is some pervert waiting makes my blood boil.

Re: Tell me what you think about this..a friends SIL sold her breastmilk...
A very close friend of mine has actually sold her BM with each pg. There isn't much of a demand for her to donate in her area so it is sold. She produces huge amounts of BM and actually did much research on where the sold BM goes to (a company vs. a random person). She feels that if someone who would prefer to give their child breastmilk and she has extra then good for everyone involved.
However this story is just sick with the idiot who bought it. You live and learn but I think it's a little harsh to stop speaking to someone for them deciding to sell their BM.

Just a thought...I wonder what her liability is to selling breastmilk that contains well known medications in it. You had said it was declined bc of the meds for the babies but yet she had given it knowing it contained whatever to this pervert....Just curious...

I can't believe that is a real story and that they actually met this man. I try not to ever pass judgment but let it go in the garbage rather than enable some crazy person. They should have called the police bacause who knows what this guy is really up to. He sounds dangerous to me.

I thought it was illegal to sell body parts/fluid
that being said, there are people who think that BM is a "fountain of youth" type drink. I think I read that Napoleon drank it.

I can't beleive the guy offered more money to get the breastmilk directly. That alone gives me the f'n creeps.
I personally wouldn't sell my BM to someone w/ a fetish. To help other babies, ABSOLUTELY.....but not a weirdo.
The thought alone of knowing that a stranger is drinking fluids that came out of my body would freak me the hell out. OMG NO WAY!!!!!!!!

I think that's gross, and having a stranger "drink from the tap" is even more disgusting.
I heard there is an extremely wealthy man in Hong Kong who's employed several full-time wet nurses to provide HIM with breast milk round the clock.

Re: Tell me what you think about this..a friends SIL sold her breastmilk...
For anyone questioning the validity of this story i can tell you 100% it happened.
I was at a wedding this past weekend with my friend (best friend from college) and it is her DH's brother and SIL.
They were perusing the internet for ways to sell the 60 bags of BM they had accumulated in their freezer and lo and behold someone was willing to pay $400 for a third of the supply.
I BELIEVE the guy was on craigslist but i could be mistaken. My friend was not 100% sure. At FIRST the brother and SIL joked about doing it....but then became serious.
WHY they drove to this guys house with their kids is beyond me. Why they did what they did is just odd to me. I personally wouldn't stop speaking to them....but I would tell them definitely how I felt. My friend will speak to them, but her husband is VERY angry at his brother. Just how strong he feels.

I bet it is, but I don't know.
It's also illegal to solicit prostitution and a million other things but people do it all the time. Sad as it is. If you ever browse through craigslist you'll see ads from a lot of sickos!

I definitely believe the story. After seeing that HBO with placenta eating, this seems very likely to be happening.

I understand your point i guess...i just didn't consider FF dealing with the issue of morality...I do see that ANYTHING could be turned into a moral debate...and I wouldn't stop talking to someone for what they did BUT i would def. speak up. I just can't see the same happening in a case where someone chooses to formula feed. IF someone ever chastised another for formula feeding I would feel that's sick.

Re: Tell me what you think about this..a friends SIL sold her breastmilk...
A mother should not be spending her time pumping breastmilk unless it was going to be used to benefit a baby. As a new mom, I could not see spending so much time pumping for any other reason than to feed a baby. Also, I would belt a stranger who asked to drink from the tap (not just say no, I would hit the guy)!!!!!
As for the formula debate, it is totally different. A baby must be fed and every mom must make a choice about feeding. Not every mom has to get involved with a pervert!

I'm sure they would love it, lol.
Seriously though...anyone who would ever ridicule another for their choice of nutrition source is not someone I'd ever want to be friends with.
What would they think of my coworker who had a double masectomy and could not breastfeed...I bet they'd stop in their tracks pretty fast with negative comments towards formula.
Narrow minded people sicken me. I hope their hate isn't coming through their breastmilk!! (I am not saying you are one of those people FYI!!!).
