Tell me what you think of this situation?
A friend of mine was shopping at the supermarket.. It was the 4th of July.. Her cart was so filled up and flowing over. Now she shops in this grocery store all the time and know almost everyone. Now she gets on this line and starts un packing and the cashier knows her and her son.. The cashier starts talking about how my friends son dated one of her friends bla bla bla. So my friend is just listening and the cashier askes how many cases of soda do you have. My friend says 4 so she rings everything and walks out from behind the register. She asked my friend again how many cases of soda do you have? so she says 4. The cashier starts screaming LIAR LIAR you have 5 so my friend says no I have 4. Well she looks in front of her cart and she did have 5.. So she apologized and said omg I am so sorry. Now the cashier calls the manager and starts pulling all her bags apart and going through everything and now see tapes under her bag!! Well they went nuts telling her she is a liar and what are the tapes doing under her bag. So now mind you she has not paid for anything yet.. Now she pays for it all and leaves..
The next day she goes back to speak to the manager and the manager accuses her again and said give me your name and grocery card number dont ever come back here....
I dont know but is this right??

Not sure what you mean by tape. As in masking tape to tape things to herself?

I'm thinking it was one more thing underneath all the bags that she forgot to put on the conveyor?
I think it was incredibly wrong of the girl and the management to accuse her so strongly like that. It was an honest mistake and one that could have been handled much more professionally by all.

Why would the checkout girl even ASK her how many she had and not just look in the 1st place??

Re: Tell me what you think of this situation?
The manager and the cashier were both wrong, they could have just charged her for the product and sent her on her way.
I worked in a supermarket for many years, and I have family and friends that still do, they would NEVER do this to a person. I believe they are required to have the person pay for it, if they refuse, then they can ask them to leave.
If it were me...I woul d have left my bags there with all that food, and told them, don't worry, you just lost a customer.

I would have told the cashier "I haven't PAID yet so DON'T accuse me of anything or assume I'm stealing"!
It's an honest mistake that has happened to me. I thought I was done unloading the cart and start packing and realize there is still something in the wagon.
At that point it's not stealing! I would have demanded to speak to a manager. If they continued to treat me like I was stealing something, I wouldhave walked out and left them to void the whole order.
Than contacted the main office. And mailed my discount card back to them.

Re: Tell me what you think of this situation?
100% out of line. I've had cashiers politely but firmly ask me if I had forgotten anything in my basket and I'm all "Oh yea! That giant box of kitty litter underneath."
Its really insane to publicly humiliate a customer especially when they hadn't left the store nor was her intention to deceive them.
I'd go to corporate

They were video tapes and they were under her bag she probably would have left with out paying for them but that happens all the time to many people. She would have ran back in or when she went to pay saw them and said oh I forgot these and paid.. I think this was so embarrassing. And also Why didnt she count herself. its not the consumers responsibilty to count her items. She went to put the stuff on the belt but the girl said no thats ok!! How many!! I am so upset for her.. Then the cashier kept making snide remarks to every customer who was on the line saying are you hiding stuff too in your wagon!!!

No more shopping there, that's for sure! And write a letter to the store's headquarters. That's disgusting!

It was honest mistake and there was no need to completely flip out and embarrass this woman.

This is what I would have done. Just leave EVERYTHING and go to a store that actually appreciates your business. Totally out of line of them.

I would have done the same thing AND have writen a letter to the hedad office telling them exactly how their ermployees are treating their customers!!
I worked for a supermarket for many years and the last thing the regional manager want to get is a call about one of their managers from the head office!!
