Re: Temp of your house after baby comes
It all depends on how hot/cold your house is.
They say that babies have the same temp we do -- so I know if I'm cold then chances are so is Jack.
We have to keep our heat up to 74 - and it's still really kind of cold. We also have forced air and three full levels that it has to heat so maybe that's why!

Re: Temp of your house after baby comes
Babies cant regulate their own body temp, so I would just see how it goes. You can put a onesie, pj and then those sleep sacs on baby. Then just check the chest and neck area and see if a nice warm temp.. Dont go by limbs, they are always colder than core of body. If the core of the body of baby is warm then baby is okay with temp at 60 at night.
ETA: also dont make baby too warm.. they can overheat.

Re: Temp of your house after baby comes
We keep our house at 70 degrees usually. It's usually hotter because we often turn the fireplace on.

Re: Temp of your house after baby comes
we keep it at 70 during the day and 67 or 68 at night - DS's door is closed so the room stays fairly warm, but it's not good to keep the house too warm at night because unfortunately it increases the risk of SIDS.

THEY SAY TO DRESS THE BABY WITH ONE MORE LAYER THAN YOU WEAR TO BED..AND WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OUT....we love to turn the heat down at nite also..we are both cold freaks LOL we have actualy talked about it and go with the flow....they will be born in the beginning of march so we won't have to worry about that for too long....but we also LOVE to bump up the AC so we are going to have to curb that..We liike it FREEZING in our house LOL..i wear sweats and tees in the summer in our house!

Re: Temp of your house after baby comes
Well, mine will be born in August, so it won't be an issue right away. We generally keep our house at 62. The house gets very warm through all the windows with the sun....guess we'll have to see when the lil bean gets here.

Re: Temp of your house after baby comes
The pediatrician we are using said the house should be around 68/69 degrees for the baby. Seems cold to me (especially since I live in an apartment and we don't have much control over the heat - and the other day the temperature in our apartment was 82 degrees!!!)

Re: Temp of your house after baby comes
the second floor in my house is freezing without space heaters on. When i took my BF class, they said that 68 degrees is a good temperature to keep the house at. coincidentally that is the temperature i like to keep my house at, id rather wear lots of layers and breath not stuffy air.

Re: Temp of your house after baby comes
We ALWAYS keep the house at 65 when we're home and 63 at night. We both hate the heat. We just layer Emerson in her PJ's and Halo Sleep Sack and she always wakes up toasty. Our house is a bit cool but they say babies should be kept between 68-72 degrees. You don't want it too warm because it increases the chances of SIDS.

Re: Temp of your house after baby comes
I agree with two of the posters above....people instinctively think the house is supposed to be warm when you bring a new baby home. It's not true...it should be set however you are used to keeping it. It has been proving that keeping the house too warm when baby is sleeping can increase the risk of sids.
It also depends on the baby....and that is obviously something you can't plan for. We keep the house around 67 degrees. Any warmer and DD overheats very quickly. Babies are supposed to wear one more layer of clothing than you do. Over dressing them can lead to heat rash very quickly.
It's not a matter of the actual temperature, or what you "think" is a good temperature for the baby...they will dictate, and it is really very easy to tell if your DC is too cold or too warm.

Re: Temp of your house after baby comes
Uch. This was the source of all fights between myself and hubby for the first year. He was convinced she was always cold because she didn't have the benefit of snuggling under a blanket so we kept a separate heater in her room, set to 75. But, our pediatrician told us to keep her room between 68-72 degrees.

Re: Temp of your house after baby comes
We bought the grobag egg that changes color depending on the temperature of the room.
We keep it in the baby's room - according to the egg directions, 62-67 degrees is an ideal temp for the baby... 68-70 is on the "warm" side. The nursery ranges from 64-70 degrees depending on the time of the day. We keep our house at 67 degrees this time of year.
