Testing done out of network
This may be a long shot but does anyone know if I have any recourse for testing that was done at my in-network dr office but sent to the wrong lab, an out of network lab? I had blood work done that can only be tested by 2 labs in NY. My insurance covers the test, but only if done by an in-network lab and my dr office sent it to the wrong lab. Not my choice at all. I have no out of network coverage. I called the dr office and got an "oh well" attitude from them.

I had this happen a few times and I know others who experienced the same. The doctor has your insurance and should know where your labs go. When this happens your doctor is supposed to foot the bill since they made the mistake. I would call back and ask to speak with the office manager at your doctor's office. Be very insistent that they take care of it since they were at fault. If it comes down to it, ask to speak with the dr.

Thanks for the response. I had this happen once before also (different dr), many years ago and the dr office also footed the bill. I was shocked by the response I got this time. I wasn't sure what the norm is.

Re: Testing done out of network
I had this done recently. I called the lab and apparently with my insurance, when this happens and the dr sends it to the wrong lab, I am not responsible for it. Not sure why they allow this, but I called and did not have to pay. I too am only covered for two labs for bloodwork and it was sent to a different one.
