Thank God my kid doesn't go to daycare...

because he'd sooo be kicked out for biting!Chat Icon

Last week he put his head on my shoulder and as I said out loud "what a sweet boy." he bit me so hard that he made me bleed. It throbbed for a good day and now is still black and blue.

Since then he's attemped to bite me several times and succeeded a few but not nearly as severe as last weeks bite!

I firmly tell him NO, but it seems to be a big game for him! What am I doing wrong??

Sadie doesnt do it much but I try not to say NO to her much.

What I do is when she hurts herself...like shuts her fingers in a drawer, or bumps her head, I say OUCH. Then, when she bites me (usually it is out of excitement) I say ouch and move her away.

I dont know if she gets it, but it doesnt happen much, and she doesnt laugh about it.

lol! aww poor marie Chat Icon

i've had to say a few LOUD "no biting" to her for her to get it. for allison, if she cries, she "gets" it. now she nuzzles up and goes in for the kill, but i remind her "no biting" and she decides otherwise Chat Icon

My child was kicked out of 2 different daycares for biting. We constantly worked with him to teach him not to do it. He outgrew it by age 3.

I know your pain. I used to look like a $2 hooker with all the tiny bites all over my body.

I tried many things, but what began to work was ignoring.

Good luck! It's a tough thing to deal with! Chat Icon

Sometimes you have to be a little firmer than firm. Make sure he understands that he is hurting you. DD did this a couple of times with me, and I have to admit, because I was so shocked by it I yelled "no bitting, you hurt mommy." And she got upset. She never did it after that.

My DS is a biter too. He's bitten DD and made her cry. He's bitten me and it HURTS!
Every time he tries to do it now, I move him away and firmly tell him "no biting." If he does it I will yell "ow" loudly and then tell him again "no biting, it hurts mommy."
I think he is starting to get the idea because he doesn't do it as much anymore.

I have been told by BTDT moms to bite back... but I really have no clue since I have not gotten that far yet. Chat Icon

Thats the thing, I've made him cry when I yelled at him! A few minutes later, he's trying again!

Thanks for all the replies!! I've gotten very firm with him and I've even made him cry but it doesn't seem to make a difference! Today, he came at me to bite me all while shaking his head no-this kid kills meChat Icon

Re: Thank God my kid doesn't go to daycare...

What always worked with Alex is I would say very sternly "NO BITING" and then I would put her down on the floor and walk away. Walking away and not playing/cuddling with her for a good 5 minutes was punishment enough for her to stop the behavior.
