Thank you gift for doctor and doctor staff..
I just gave birth to my perfect little son and my doctor was beyond fantastic.... i want to send something to the office for him, the nurse and receptionist and then something just to him (maybe a bottle of champagne??) anyone have any suggestions? And is this usually done?

when i gave birth to DS, I got my OB a swatch watch
I got him the male version of the one i have but only because he would compliment me on it every visit so I knew he'd like it
edible arrangement is nice

Everytime I go into my OB they have Dunking Donuts LOL so I would send them something sweet....cookies etc.

Yea, I am purposely avoiding that, lol. My OB's "staff" is one secretary that is always mean to me!

if you really feel it's needed then i would just do something simple like Donuts or so, not alcohol JMHO

According to DH, because OB is charging us 400 for cord blood procedure and he thinks that the gift should be that we don't complain about it. 
I gave the OB a bottle of champagne for the winter holidays, and her office a big box of chocolate. I will probably do a repeat of this after the baby is born. For me its just good karma, and its not a huge expense for us considering they take really good care of me.

Ditto!
I have seen what they bill the insurance company for my visits and  that is MORE than enough.
I like booze though- I would have no problem sending some booze their way!

Most doctors bill the insurance insane huge amounts. Its standard practice with most specialist. No doctor actually gets paid what they bill the insurance. Doctors usually get anywhere from 5-30% of what they bill.
Did you ever see a report of what your insurance actually agreed to pay the doctor?

Yes I have.
They do pay less than what the Dr bills but in all honesty what the Dr's bill are ridiculous so they must overbill on purpose knowing they won't get the full amount.
And regardless- nobody tips me or buys me a gift to do my job.
JMO but they won't be getting a gift from me...
To each their own however.
