The Baby Sleep Solution??
Anyone read this book and follow the plan? If so, did it work?

Re: The Baby Sleep Solution??
Yes! I did! Based on another LIF mom's glowing review.
Here is one of my old posts about it
I think it worked well for us, because we did pretty much what the author recommended doing weeks 1-8, I only picked up the book when DS was 11 weeks, but it wasn't too bad. I got a little confused about night feedings, but it worked out.
I love how she talks about a no-cry method for sleep training, but only only! after you know the baby has had enough to eat for the day. I think she's brilliant and her method worked like a charm for my baby.
The biggest controversy is about stretching feedings and eliminating night feedings. If you read carefully about the method as a whole, its not as drastic as it sounds, it gently encourages baby to play and be distracted from eating. So that when it is time to eat, they eat more. She gives a lot of ideas on play, and examples of a daily schedule. When they eat more during the day, they need less at night. You do this so gradually, baby isn't really stressed by it.
I honestly don't think its an easy book to follow if your EBF, unless you have some kind of power that you can feel how many ounces you've fed to your baby. I don't think counting BF minutes makes sense in terms of figuring how much baby is eating, at least not to me anyway. Maybe an EBF mom can give you some experience.
I also think if your baby is around 6m or older its probably a little late to start the method. You might want to pick up Healthy Sleep Habits and form your own plan based on his recommendations.
I did not find Baby Sleep Solution to conflict with anything in Healthy Sleep Habits though, I actually thought Baby Sleep Solution would be a great supplemented chapter to it, as an example to follow Weissbluth recommendations for pre-6m, when you're not ready for CIO.

Re: The Baby Sleep Solution??
Thank you!!! DS is almost 12 weeks and does eat about 25 ounces a day so he should be satisfied. He is EBF but he gets boob and bottle and gets a pumped bottle at his last feeding. I have to read the section on dropping the middle of the night feeding again. Do I follow weeks 1-8 even if he is almost 12?

I think you want to read the part of weeks 1-8, just to see what you didn't do, or did do, in those weeks like the book. A big part of 1-8 is understanding your child's patterns, to create a good schedule for them.
Remember, it doesn't matter what he eats a day, but what he eats ALL DAY, including night feedings.
So, for example, lets say he eats 32 ounces ALL DAY. Then what you need to get him to do is eat 4 times a day, about 8 ounces each feeding. But don't force it, he will gradually take this much if you stretch him 4 hours during the day, if he doesn't he eventually will, when he's STTN, but thats what you have to offer.
So first step, is to just stretch him day feedings 4 hours. Give night feedings as normally would, whenever he wakes, if he's hungry, feed and keep track. You'll see he'll fall into some pattern.
Only when you have him eating every 4 hours during the day, then concentrate on night feedings.
How much is he eating at night, how often? If he's eating 4oz at 1am and 4oz at 4am. Pick 1am first. Offer 3.5oz at 1am for a day, then offer 3oz, etc etc. Once you have him weaned off the 1am feeding. Then offer 3.5 oz at 4am, then 3oz, etc etc.
This part confused me so much, but when I understood it, and saw it in action, it was like magic. Those lost ounces at night, came back the next day during a daytime feeding.

YES! This book was a miracle worker for us! DS has been STTN and a great napper since 4 months old because of this book. I agree with MommyIam, definitely read the book (it's pretty short) so you know what to expect. Good luck!

Re: The Baby Sleep Solution??
I was EBF when i read the book and I didnt find that it helped me too much since its hard to measure exactly how much my DD was eating throughout the day. I ended up just weaning DD myself with paci.

Re: The Baby Sleep Solution??
Thank you! I read through book last night and this morning. So last night DS ate at about 8:30 (7oz) then went down drowsy. He slept until about 3ish. We tried twice to soothe him with just paci but by the third time we gave him his bottle (4oz) and he went back down and slept until about 7:30. I nursed him at 8.
A few questions- do I decrease the middle of the bottle to 3.5 tonight? Do I give the lost .5 ounce somewhere today or tomorrow.
Do you follow the plan for naps also? Is it bad if I don't?

Re: The Baby Sleep Solution??
mommyIam, thanks for that summary! I've been wondering how to get DD to STTN. SHe's 8 weeks and still wakes for that 1:00 and 4:00 feeding. I'm gonna try this and hopefully it works

Yes, I followed almost exactly, but DS ended up 11hrs STTN, and took 2, 2hrs naps.
eat play sleep, healthy sleep habits goes into the science why sleep after 2 hour play is important, but this book just says its what works. Getting naps right has a lot to do with STTN for most babies.
Its also easier for baby to forget that they are starting to get hungry when they are asleep. So always play after meals, except bedtime.

DD STTN at 8 weeks. She did it because she was ready.
DS is now 8 weeks and still wakes twice for a bottle. IMO, 8 weeks is still too young to expect a baby to drop a nightime feeding. I asked my pediatrician this yesterday at his 2 month check up and she said the same thing.
