The Departed: Best Picture??
I'm watching this with DH right now and I cannot believe this movie got an Oscar for Best Picture!!!! It's your typical good cop/bad cop violent movie....I am so annoyed this won an Oscar!

I didn't see it, but I did see Little Miss Sunshine. Can't understand why that was nominated??? It was "cute", but that's about it.

DH and I started watching it last night.. barely got 1/2 way through it and shut it off  After now hearing the end is good, we will probably try at it again

Okay, I thought it was just because I dozed of for a few minutes in the middle, but I did not really like it either. DH was amazed
ETA: Then again, we hated Mystic River and I think that won too.

DH and I just watched this today. I thought it was good. There were some parts that I was  .
I think it was a little long though - I was getting antsy!

We watched it last night. I liked it but it left me confused. 
I think there was talk that Sciorsce (sp?) was going to get it just because it was time or something like that but maybe I'm thinking of something/someone else. I could be wrong about that.

That talk was for him to get best director as he has been nominated 5 times before this (I think 5 is the right number).
As for The Departed getting best picture. Well A LOT goes into consideration for this, not just was it a good movie or a bad movie...Acting, directing, editing, make-up, sound etc,
That is why sometimes we go HUH? or why the general public doesn't agree.

i loved it!!!
usually i can't deal with movies that are longer than 1 and a half hours... yet, i never got antsy with this one... so that, for me, is a huge accomplishment. iguess i liked that it had a little bit of everything- humor, conflict, love affair, the bad guy that you want to hate, but there's just something about him, the corruption. i dont know.. it wasn't the most amazing film ever, but i thought it was a great movie.

I'll agree, but all of Scorsese's films are long. so I kind of expected it. I thought it was a great film & I love that Marty won for best director. I will submit that it is not his BEST film ever, but it was good.

This movie was in my top 5 movies of all time for me. I loved it and i can't wait to see it again. And i don't really like violent movies.

My DH and I loved the movie! We were riveted the whole time. And the ending really threw us! Totally didn't expect that, but glad it went that way.
Now Miami Vice...that was a crappy movie.  (I can't believe DH and I actually sat through that whole movie. What a waste of our time.  )

I really really loved it too - but my parents and Rich's parents both watched it and said it was boring and drawn out, predictable, and not-deserving of the Oscar.
