did he get hurt at work?
if he did, worker's comp should take care of it.
i broke my ankle at work about 6 years ago and i didn't have insurance at the time. worker's comp took care of it.
praying for a speedy recovery

Im so sorry...but from what I heard you should NOT get a bill for the ambulance...that is what your taxes are paying for...if you do I would fight it.

If it is a FDNY ambulance your insurance is supposed to pay for it (my DH is EMS) BUT very rarely do they even bother taking the info since so many people don't have insurance.
Back on topic, you have 90 days to elect COBRA and you can do it at any point. Call your old employer ASAP and get the paperwork.
