Re: The house owner called me back

Our house had 100 amps and the home inspector told us that we needed to upgrade, because he said even installing a ceiling fan would have caused problems. We had it done for about $2k (along with a few other things)

sorry if I missed it somewhere in the thread, but why do you "have" to dormer it?

Re: The house owner called me back

I think you are more in love with the idea of owning a house then in the actual house itself. I only say this b/c by your posts it seems you have been trying to talk yourself into buying the house more then you were a few thousand $$ ago.

Its probably the only decent house ( to your standards) that you can "settle" on that you have seen in your price range in a good area since you have been looking ( just guessing here please correct me if I am wrong)
I think this could be a starter home for you if that is something you are interested in.
It just dosent seem by your posts it has the potential to make it into the home you would like it to be.

Even though the price isn't actually "a lot" for a home on LI in a good area its still "a lot" of money to spend to be settling or not have much room for improvement

I am sure you are torn b/c you have been looking for awhile and haven't been able to find what you are looking for in your price range but don't loose hope!!! It is out there somewhere!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Good Luck in whatever you choose to doChat Icon

Re: The house owner called me back

Thanks - to everyone for their advice. We decided that the negatives outweighed the positives and we are going to pass up on this house. I have to call the owner later

Re: The house owner called me back

Thanks. I spoke to the owner last night and told him we were going to pass. I didnt give him an answer why, I just told him good luck and that was it.

He said he was going to list it with prudential, so when I see it up there I will post it here

The house only has 100AMPS. I wonder if that would be ok if we had the a/c, computers, lights and tv on at the same time or if we would have problems

Scott I don't know what you decided, but I wanted to tell you something about the 100 AMPS. We had an electritian come out to update ours, because we thought it wasn't enough. He told us it wasn't necessary at all. We have a small network at home with computers. We have a large AC. We run a lot and have NO PROBLEMS. If we expand our kitchen, put on a full dormer (we have a rear one now) or add central AC then we will upgrade. But otherwise 100amps is sufficient.
