The melting pot...update
We are thinking of going there tonight to celebrate Valentines day - the reviews online are mixed - has anyone on here gone and is it worth it? We make fondue at home so I am familiar with the concept.
Updated:
So we went last night - we made reservations a while back but wasn't sure if we were going to try it or go back to Coolfish since we hadn't been there in a while. Actually it was pretty quiet. I don't think they were full at all last night.
We had the big night out - we actually really enjoyed the meal - but it was a lot of food - we like fondue so it was fun - it was nice to have a 2-3 hour meal and some quiet time. Our booth was nice and private and we didn't feel like we were sitting on top of anyone else.
The food was good but not excellent - but we still really enjoyed it and plan to return. We would not do the feast again but it was a fun one time deal.
If we went back we would do Cheese fondue, salad and dessert or just entree and dessert. But it was definitely worth trying the full meal once. We make fillet mingnon and cheese fondue at home for friends and just us before - but it was nice to go out and not worry about having to put it all together or keep the cats from knocking over the flame.
Overall I would recommend it and we will try it again.

Re: The melting pot...
it was really good, but we decided if we go back we're just doing App and dessert...it was so much food and those were the best courses in our opinions

Re: The melting pot...
we personally love it... and it depends on what you go for. you can go and just get a cheese fondue appetizer with bread and some veggies to dip and then chocolate fondue for dessert... or you can get the "big night out" which includes the full entree where you cook the meat, etc. we love doing the full meal- LOVE the terriaki beef and shrimp! and they give you tons of sauces and veggies to dip. either way, its a very cool place to go and have a long, relaxing meal....

Re: The melting pot...
Appetizer and dessert fondues are ok.
Didn't like having to cook my own entree...and I didn't like the entree food. Plus it was way overpriced.
I wouldn't go back.

You pretty much covered what I would have written. You will either love it or hate it. I loved it, left full and it was so much fun. but we like fun finger foods and relaxing.

Re: The melting pot...
We loved it...but we got the BIG NIGHT OUT and it was wayyyyyyyyy too much food. When we go back, I would just do the cheese fondue and dessert. We literally rolled out of there...

Re: The melting pot...
I really enjoyed it the few times I've been. I went twice with some friends and once just DH and I. It was so romantic when DH and I went. I think the food is good, different from any other restaurant we've been to. It is expensive, but worth it IMO.

Re: The melting pot...
I think they are taking reservations for a month in advance - hard to get in on short notice but good luck.

Re: The melting pot...
We really liked it, the food was really good and something different to try (although I haven't been to the LI one yet.)
It is expensive, but we did the full meal too, and as we were leaving, we realized we ended up staying for about 3 hours. I suspect this is the reason the food is expensive - not as much turnover. I would go back for a special occasion, but it is a little pricey for a regular night out.

they're on route 110 in farmingdale. dinner prices vary so much based on what you order. 'the big night out' that you see other people posting about is a four course meal and ranges in price from $86 - $96/couple depending on which one you get. It comes with a cheese fondue (your choice) salad, (your choice) your dinner, which is an assortment of meats, poultry, fish and veggies and a dessert fondue (your choice.) DH and I did this twice and LOVED it, but it is a ton of food. way too much for two people, IMO. The farmingdale location is also the first one to serve bar food, our server told us. we're going this weekend for my bday and we will get a cheese fondue, a bar appetizer and a dessert fondue. That should cut the price down to about $40ish for both of us. the other posters are right - the cheese and chocolate fondues are by far the best part. IMO, its stupid to waste your time on salad there.
